It’s almost a week since the release of the new iPad Air (2020) which offers one of the best technology till date in the iPad Air line. Aside sporting an entirely new look, the device also has some add-on feature that makes it even more “Pro” such as the support for the Apple Pencil but that in a moment.
One way that Apple had made everything much more easier is the release of the new iPadOS 14 which comes with some interesting features such as the new widget system and overhauled user interface which makes the iPad much better than the typical Android tablet.
Another thing the iPad Air 2020 model sports is the A14 Bionic chipset which is very powerful and meant to simplify processing and enhance speed and efficiency. The support for other Apple product ecosystem is why the iPad Air is going to be a great purchase this fall.
Since Apple had decided to switch the design of the iPad Air to mock it after the iPad Pro aesthetics, the 10.4-inch OLED display is really cool and offer a True Tone display quality with other specifications such as 12MP single camera setup which we obviously know this isn’t the device made essentially for taking pictures.

But being a tool in itself is one of the high quality features. It supports the Apple Magic Keyboard and the Apple Pencil for the creative people and uses the USB-C charging port.
Paying just US$200 more on the iPad Pro gets you things like a whooping 120Hz ProMotion display, a second wide-angle lens and more storage option but if you’re sticking with the US$399.
You might wonder what makes the iPad Pro much expensive, there are definitely some increase in specification list on that one compared to the iPad Air such as the LiDAR sensor and the computing power of the former is even much powerful and it comes in two sizes.
iPad Air delivers a massive boost in performance with Apple’s most advanced chip, A14 Bionic. Handling even the most demanding apps, A14 Bionic makes it even easier for users to edit 4K videos, create gorgeous works of art, play immersive games, and more. Using breakthrough 5-nanometer process technology, A14 Bionic is packed with 11.8 billion transistors for increased performance and power efficiency in nearly every part of the chip. This latest-generation A-series chip features a new 6-core design for a 40 percent boost in CPU performance, and a new 4-core graphics architecture for a 30 percent improvement in graphics.2 To deliver breakthrough machine learning capabilities, A14 Bionic includes a new 16-core Neural Engine that is twice as fast, and capable of performing up to 11 trillion operations per second, taking machine learning apps to a whole new level. A14 Bionic also includes second-generation machine learning accelerators in the CPU for 10 times faster machine learning calculations. This combination of the new Neural Engine, CPU machine learning accelerators, and high-performance GPU enables powerful on-device experiences for image recognition, natural language learning, analyzing motion, and more.
So if you’re thinking about getting the high performance in your hands, then you might consider paying US$200 more but let’s face the fact, the iOS is great and very efficient and so is the A14 Bionic chipset. Though depending on why you want to buy a new tablet in the first place, that might depend on what you’ll eventually purchase.
The processing power of the “Pro”
One thing remains that the processing power of the iPad Pro is still top-notch and so might be worth the price if that’s what you think about. But let’s face the fact, the inclusion of the A14 Bionic is one of the interesting reason to opt for this device because Apple in fact bragged about the fact that most PC won’t be able to catch up.
It got to the extent we though maybe it’s time you ditch your PC for the iPad Pro because it just seems to be everything but then comes in the iPad Air 2020 which offers some pretty decent quality as well even though it might not be as powerful as the “Pro” But remember, the pro is a pro for a reason.
Augmented reality
One big difference between the iPad Air and iPad Pro is the LiDAR presence on the latter which is meant to enhance its Augmented Reality (AR) capacity. Why Apple decided to pull off the LiDAR sensor on the former might still be a wonder but maybe that’s because the “Pro” needs to be top-notch and have all the amazing features.
One of the possible things you can use the LiDAR scanner for that you can make use of the AR in the real world like you’ve never seen before. It has the capability to capitalize on the A14 bionic chipset and providing an absolute capacity.
Another aspect is the inclusion and support for 5G which Apple didn’t even introduce in the previous iPhone 11 series though we hope that changes in the next generation. But that also doesn’t exist on the iPad Air 2020 and that can be traced back to the time of the release of the iPhone SE (2020). 5G is the future of communication and it hurts this was absent in the iPad Air but that isn’t the end.
The screen size of the iPad Pro which can range between the normal 10-inch range to as big as 12.9-inch much like a mini-laptop is an interesting thing about the tablet. The iPad Air sticks with the small screen size while the Pro seems to be on the verge of increase over time a s it won’t be really surprising if Apple eventually drops an iPad Pro with 15-inch display.
The folding phone market is gradually growing up bit by bit and there need for Apple to enter this market as well. Take the Surface Duo for example, it’s basically Microsoft putting a Tablet into your pockets the same with the Galaxy Z Fold 2 which does the same.
What will the future be like if Apple improvise maybe through the iPad Pro line or the Air line of product but it all depend on what Apple is willing to bring to the table.
The future very much depend on what users want but as we all know Apple, the company never cease to be creative in their ideas even though it seems they’re much more interested in their services and software rather than designing some bleeding edge hardware specifications much like the rat race of Android smartphone manufacturers.
