The most anticipated network is here, the 5G technology is going to sweep the world by storm. With so many experimentation with 5G enabled devices and gadgets, we can say the network is what we essentially need in this modern.
Now with this technology, it will be extremely easy for devices to be synced together with the minimal effort considering how speedy the connection is going to be. With carrier like Verizon already testing out it’s 5G technology, the company’s usage of robots and how great they can communicate with one another in this environment makes the future of technology very speedy and amazing.
Even if you’re just assuming that the meaning of 5G Network is speed, then you should know that there are also low latency which means getting rid of the lag time which makes the older networks such as 4G, 3G and so forth to take quite longer before processing data and information.
“With 5G, the robot and the operator can communicate instantly,” said Yan Gu, an assistant professor of mechanical engineering at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell.
This next generation network is just the beginning of the modern world of network communication. With companies like Verizon and AT&T already going in for this, soon mobile users will be left behind if they don’t quickly switch on to 5G technology.
As the Verizon 5G network is on the verge of roll-out soon, the customers of this network will enjoy the max speed of the network. With cities like Chicago, Minneapolis and other areas and suburbs are going to be getting the roll out.
With fewer 5G smartphones in the circulation as of now, it would be a little bit hard to get the best out of this network. Even though the Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is already on the roll-out as well all thanks to Verizon for making that a possibility.
Getting the network isn’t of course everywhere yet but that should change before runs out. Verizon in particular is working extremely hard to ensurre the roll out especially in those aforementioned cities. (In addition, the company has a 5G home service in Houston, Indianapolis, Los Angeles and Sacramento, California.)
Testing the speed of the 5G Network with the Galaxy S10 5G was blazing fast. Being able to download a 10 hours of 4K resolution movie in less than 5 minutes is an amazing upgrade to the technology. Or downloading a 2 hours movies in just 8 seconds makes the 5G network speed very scary and far more superior to the existing and common 4G network that we’re already used to.
More than speed
The 5G network is more than speed as it makes you enjoy your smartphone to the max. Of course, there is a little bit of a heat-up when the device tries too hard to get the network but the moment you’re in a really comfortable region of the network, things works awesome.
Verizon’s Nicki Palmer made it known that the company wants to bring an entirely new experience to the tech industry which will change every industry altogether. The way we learn, transport and even relate and communicate.
If you think about the low-latency which is a major feature that makes the 5G really amazing, the fact that even when the network’s frequency isn’t very much in range can still outperform the likes of 3G network in speed.
By the time this network gets to it’s max peak, it will be very easy for us to start riding in a well auto-pilot vehicles as well as connecting different devices in seconds. IoT and smart home appliances can communicate with one another with ease. Companies like Nest will be working on bringing us a smart doorbell which will serve as a great situational alarm for any reason.
Even Doctors would be able to perform surgeries under the supervision of specialists who can provide realtime expertise while guiding in operation processes.
Platforms from remote surgery to mixed reality and autonomous cars are expected to thrive. “They just get better with 5G,” said Christian Guirnalda, director of Verizon’s 5G Labs.
Getting to that point will require alot of course. Which is why Verizon did a demonstration in front of journalists to showcase how the health care industry would be changed forever. The company did a pile of experimental projects with the 5G in health care, as well as the Manufacturing industry, public safety by taping into the company’s wideband of Network. It was a showcase of winners of the company’s 5G Robotics Challenge and other partners working in the Cambridge facility.
The Cambridge lab, set in a colonial-style brick building on a leafy side street nestled next to the Harvard University campus, is one of three that the company’s currently operating. The others are in New York and Washington, DC.
We need to calm down
As of now, fewer companies are making 5G smartphones. Huawei’s Mate 20X 5G was cancelled in the UK after the whole US Ban meltdown. The Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is already out though but fewer people have it yet. Also, the network’s accuracy on devices that supports it isn’t 100%
Carriers are still in the early days of building out their networks, starting with metropolitan areas. Even there, many of the deployments feel like souped-up Wi-Fi hotspots.
Never mind how long it might take 5G to get out into the suburbs and rural areas or even developing nations of the world. That means the global adoption will take years before everyone finally picks it up.
Here’s another thing that the teams at Thursday’s demo are looking forward to with 5G: Devices in the field — like UMass Lowell’s rescue robot — won’t have to pack a lot of computing power themselves, meaning they can be lighter and enjoy longer battery life. They’ll be relying on “edge computing,” servers elsewhere that can do heavy-duty work, like handling HD video and sensor processing.
“5G lets us get more computing off the device,” said Rahul Chipalkatty, CEO of Boston-based robotics software maker Southie Autonomy.
With the way things are going, the world is gradually getting far more closer to one another than never before.
“It will exist at some point in the future,” said Palmer. “This lab is about how do you innovate on top of that network.”
