The Snapdragon 8cx chipset had been announced way back since December of 2018 which is meant for laptops as well as 2-in-1 convertible PC running the Windows operating system. The chipset which was tipped to sport a 7nm capacity had been featured on devices such as the Lenovo Flex 5G as well as the Samsung Galaxy Book S. But there could be a trimmed up version called the Snapdragon 8cx Plus…more on that below.
The newest about the processor reveals that Qualcomm is working on an enhanced version of the Snapdragon 8cx which is expected to be built on ARM architecture as well as powering Windows-based devices in coming times.
The “SC8180X” internal model number is associated with the Snapdragon 8CX while the upgraded model according to the publication states the model number to being “SC8180XP”which has appeared already in the import and export databases suggesting that it could be the anticipated enhanced version of the Snapdragon 8cx chipset.
While the inclusion of the “P” label isn’t known, some though it could simply mean “Pro” or “Plus” model just as we do see on smartphones nowadays. Also, the publication further stated the SC8180XP chipset is based on Octa-core processor with four Kryo 495 Gold (Cortex-A76) CPU cores which is clocking at 3.15GHz and four Kryo 495 Silver (Cortex-A55) CPU cores reaching 1.8GHz.
Other noteworthy reports about the chipset includes using the 718MHz Adreno 680 Graphics processing which is also found on the Snapdragon 8cx chipset. Whether there is any change in the speed of the GPU due to the boosted CPU is yet to be known.
There have been a moderately tweaked up model of the Snapdragon 8cx as with the case of the Surface Pro X 2-in-1 which was released back in October 2019 dubbed the Microsoft SQ1 carrying the name “Microsoft” since the chip was specifically made for the Surface Pro X PC.
But the Snapdragon 8cx “Plus” is expected to be much more powerful than the Microsoft SQ1 although there isn’t any official information to back that fact up with the naming almost uncertain. But anyway, this is just an unofficial report which means not to be taken very seriously as the news could change overtime.
