Intel was at some points the Apple of chipmakers – and it’s still a big player especially on Windows PCs, however, the company seems to be losing momentum which led to the loss of one of its biggest customers, Apple.
In a recent Axios on HBO episode, Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger had various discussions with Axios Chief Technology Correspondent Ina Fried and one of those includes Apple’s decision to opt for its own chipset for its Mac lineup rather than sticking up with Intel.
Gelsinger was asked if Intel has given up on the idea of Apple Macs using Intel processors in the future.
He responded that he hopes to win back Apple by outcompeting the company in this segment with its own chips as time gets by.
He also added that his company has stumbled in the past and will “fight hard” to win back Apple’s business by producing better chips than Apple.

It’s no longer news that Apple has officially stated it would shift away from Intel processors and use its own Apple Silicon chips instead.
The CEO stated that “Apple decided they could do a better chip themselves than we could. And, you know, they did a pretty good job. So what I have to do is create a better chip than they can do themselves. I would hope to win back this piece of their business, as well as many other pieces of business, over time. And in the meantime, I got to make sure that our products are better than theirs, that my ecosystem is more open and vibrant than theirs, and we create a more compelling reason for developers and users to land on Intel-based products.”
Apple is one of Intel’s biggest customers and it’ll be a big win if the chipmaker is able to get them back however, there are other chipmakers that are getting much better in the business in recent years.
Hopefully, Intel can fight hard enough to also retain its PC makers’ customers such as HP, Dell, Samsung, and others.
