YouTube is free but the experience is completely ridden with advertisements which can be annoying and distracting but what can we say since that is how Google makes its money to pay its workers and keep the service free.
Enters the YouTube Premium which is a much more advanced Ad-free experience on the platform whereby you not only get ad-free experience but also get original YouTube shows but for whatever reason, that might just not be your thing any longer and so might want to switch back to your regular subscription, here is how to cancel your YouTube Premium subscription.
To cancel YouTube Premium subscription, you first need to head over to the website and then log in to your account assuming you’ve been logged out which barely happens.
Next thing is to click on your account avatar at the top right corner and then click on “Paid memberships” from the dropdown menu.
Then you’ll be presented with a page showing the memberships you are subscribed to. Next is to go under the “Premium” and click the down arrow sitting next to the “Manage membership” to show another dropdown menu like the screenshot below.
The dropdown shows information for your premium membership which also include the next billing date and your payment method. Here, you just click on the “Deactivate” link next to your billing date to initiate the canceling process.
After that, you’ll be presented with a pop-up section with an option to pause your membership for up to 6 months instead which you can resume whenever you want. But if you want to completely cancel YouTube Premium subscription then you just click on the “Continue to cancel” link.
Then a short survey form comes up requiring to know why you’ve opted to cancel your YouTube premium subscription but you can tell them the reason why or if you have no reason, you can just click on the “Never mind” link.
Then you’ll get a notice which asks you if you’re sure about your option to cancel your subscription and if that’s what you want, just proceed to the “Yes cancel” link to deactivate your YouTube premium subscription.
But eve with your premium account now cancelled, you’ll still have the YouTube premium benefits until the end of your current billing cycle so it might be cool to cancel while you still have a cycle on as you can still enjoy until the period is over then you go back to the ad-ridden YouTube.
If you want to start your subscription up again you can. Just click the same “Manage membership” dropdown menu. There you will see the date when your benefits end and the cost of an individual membership to YouTube Premium. To start it up again click the “Renew” button.
