In all previous Galaxy Unpacked events, locations were limited to Europe, the USA, and at one point, South America. However, a significant change occurred during this year’s H2 event, where Samsung decided to unveil its latest tablets, wearables, and foldable phones on stage at Unpacked in Seoul, South Korea. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 took center stage earlier today, and we had the opportunity to get hands-on with the device.
But away from the event center/location, the all-new Galaxy Z Fold 5 doesn’t necessarily have loud physical attributes that set it apart from the previous model.
Samsung in my opinion has settled for this form factor…at least, for now, while updates are basically made on subtle improvements in some important areas such as the hinge which now allows the Galaxy Z Fold 5 to close flat leaving little to no space for debris.
The inner screen too got significantly brighter with its peak brightness reaching a whopping 1750 nits. Elsewhere, the design, camera hardware, and even the outer display all retained nearly the same hardware specs as the previous models.

Additionally, the phone now comes in a fresh color option.
Similar to its predecessors, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 maintains an IPX8 water-resistance rating and boasts an Armor Aluminum build.
Samsung claims the hinge is reinforced with a dual rail structure to diffuse external impacts. Although the true test of its durability will be seen in independent evaluations, it’s worth mentioning that we refrained from performing extreme tests on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 during our hands-on video.
The software update on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 now allows for easy app switching thanks to its upgraded taskbar which now allows up to 4 applications.
Furthermore, there’s a two-handed drag-and-drop feature, which could be highly beneficial for productivity users.
Stay tuned for our comprehensive Galaxy Z Fold 5 review, coming soon. If you’re already impressed with what you’ve seen and wish to purchase the Galaxy Z Fold 5, pre-orders are now open until it officially hits the shelves on August 11.
