Yesterday, stunning news broke that Samsung could potentially be increasing the price of its highly anticipated flagship Galaxy Z Fold series in Europe, with the imminent release of the Z Fold 5. Now, new evidence has surfaced suggesting that the same fate might befall the Galaxy Z Flip 5, courtesy of Samsung itself.
The astute Roland Quandt from WinFuture was the first to discover this potential price hike while scrutinizing the terms and conditions of a competition organized by Samsung Romania for the upcoming handset.
Nestled inconspicuously on page three of the document, Samsung discreetly disclosed that ten units of the 256GB variant would be priced at a staggering 65,990 RON, inclusive of sales tax.
A simple division reveals that each unit would cost a jaw-dropping 6,599 RON, which roughly equates to a mind-boggling $1,500.

Let’s make one thing crystal clear: we aren’t naïve enough to anticipate the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 receiving a nearly $450 surge in price compared to its predecessor, the Z Flip 4.
Such a move would not only be a catastrophic commercial blunder but also a stark departure from rationality.
Besides, it’s important to recognize that the United States and Romania represent two strikingly distinct markets. TechRadar pointed out that the 256GB variant already launched in Romania at a lofty 5,699 RON, which translates to approximately $1,300.
Hence, it was already pricier in Eastern Europe than in the United States.
Therefore, it seems more plausible that the Z Flip 5 will experience a more modest increase of 900 RON compared to its predecessor, amounting to roughly $200.
This implies that the Z Flip 5 could be priced anywhere between $1,099 and $1,250 stateside, depending on Samsung’s chosen conversion strategy. Naturally, the company may opt to maintain the status quo if it deems the American market particularly crucial.
Should this anticipated price hike indeed materialize for the Galaxy Z Flip 5, it would undoubtedly be a source of immense disappointment for consumers.
After all, the narrative surrounding Samsung’s more affordable foldable line has been one of continuous price reductions thus far. The initial iteration of the Galaxy Z Flip entered the market at a steep $1,380, only to plummet to a more palatable $999 with the advent of the Z Flip 3.
Nevertheless, it’s important to acknowledge that there are valid justifications for a potential price increase. Production costs have been steadily climbing across the industry, making it increasingly difficult for manufacturers to maintain affordable price points.
Furthermore, rumors suggest that the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5 will boast considerable upgrades over its predecessors, including enhanced processing power, an impressive camera sensor, and a larger external screen to enhance usability while folded.
Whether these purported advancements warrant the speculated price increment remains to be seen. Fortunately, we won’t be kept waiting for long, as Samsung is expected to unveil its latest foldable offerings alongside the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Tab S9 at the highly anticipated Unpacked event on July 26th.
Brace yourselves for an unveiling that could potentially redefine the boundaries of innovation, albeit with a potentially heavier toll on our wallets.
