Samsung has reportedly sold about 1 Million units of it’s Galaxy Fold smartphone according to a new report from the company’s president, Young Sohn who spoke during the TechCrunch Disrupt event in Berlin.
According to the Samsung Electronics President, “There are a million people that want to use this product at $2000 each”. Said Sohn who later clarified that the company had sold about 1 million units of the Galaxy Fold smartphone.
There is no doubt the Galaxy Fold nearly headed down the pipe when it encounter engineering issues earlier this year when it was revealed. The fact that Samsung was able to pull such figure on a new device that sells for a whooping $2000 is interesting and that shows how interesting the Folding smartphone industry will be and that’s probably why other companies are venturing into it with the Royole FlexPai already out as well as the Huawei Mate X.
Even though the first units of the Galaxy Folds were supposed to be out in the market much earlier but Samsung couldn’t pull out the devices and the launch was halted not until September.
The initial review units were reportedly having engineering issues which blacked-out the display after which some reviewers accidentally pilled off the device’s protective film which was mistaken for screen protector.
But the device was still impressive after it was redesigned by Samsung which led to the film being tucked right underneath the display and well placed on the casing. The hinge also is closed up so that dust and little stones can’t enter into it and destroy the display which is made of plastic.
The Galaxy Fold is a high-end smartphone with tons of specifications. It even has 6 cameras on nearly every positions of the device. The main screen which is a smaller 3.5-Inches display can be found when the device is folded while the unfolded device shows a much larger 7.3-Inches display. Reports have indicated that Samsung may launch the Galaxy Fold 2 as soon as April 2020.
