VIVO continues to reinvent itself and on that ground, the company has now released the 2nd generation of its OriginOS today which features some interesting quirks and features such as the ability to customize the home screen, an improved camera app user interface, and a nano music player.
The general design overhaul of the home screen and the entire user interface with rounder elements all makes the new OriginOS Ocean update interesting.
So in this short post, we’ll be looking at the number of interesting features that make the new software update cool and user-friendly.
Customizable Icons and Folders

Now, you’re going to be able to customize the layout of your home screen with widgets, app icons, and folders.

You’ll also be able to resize folders to make them either bigger, medium, or smaller with the color of your choice.
The interface is also based on Google’s Material You built to the core of the new Android 12 update all of which makes the new OriginOS Ocean interesting.
A new Origin Cover Lock Screen

There’s a new lock screen called Origin Cover – which offers support for quick actions to open your favorite applications as well as seeing information at a glance without necessarily unlocking your device’s screen.
Nice-looking action center

vivo OriginOS Ocean gets a redesigned control center that offers more information on the battery, network, and sensitive permissions at a glance.
Oceans Live Wallpaper

Unless you’re some alien from Proxima Centauri, live wallpapers are cool and Vivo implementing this into its OriginOS Ocean is nothing but cool.
According to a report, the Chinese tech company partnered with Star Trek’s special effects team to create the special Ocean Live Wallpaper – I wonder how much they paid though.
A new Nano Origin Music Player

vivo’s Nano Music player is still available on the OriginOS Ocean iteration. You can control the music player with just an icon on the lock screen allowing for a simple and non-intrusive listening experience.
Also, Nano Notifications

Nano notification gets new optimizations in the Ocean OS with more colors and improvements in the way the small notifications on the icons are displayed. vivo also adds that more apps and services now support nano notifications.
I love the New Caller UI

Bubbles and flat icons all make the new caller UI interesting even though I’ll probably never use it as I’ve already paid a one-time fee to own Drupe which I think is the best phone call app out there on the market. It just makes my life easy.
Improved Emergency Calls

Okay, this one is quite important. The new OriginOS Ocean comes with this improved emergency call system that makes use of a 3-channel information transmission system to aid emergency calls.
That said, the system will send out emergency calls via phone call or text message. It’ll even go as far as send a flash message all simultaneously while also displaying the location of the caller to the emergency contact – VERY USEFUL!
Nano Reading + New Font

vivo’s Nano reading adds breakpoints in a long article with a page-flip-like animation when moving on to the next section.
Vivo says this enables a real life-like experience to the reader.
The OS also comes with Zhu Zhiwei’s custom fonts and other reader optimization options like typesetting, background, and word spacing.
New Multi Window Interaction

This is one of my favorite parts featuring an improved multi-window interaction interface which allows you to basically swipe up from the bottom left of the screen to resize an app into a small window.
You can also drag and drop this window for a split-screen all of which takes advantage of the core Android 12 experience.
You can now pay faster
Like last year’s OriginOS, the Ocean iteration also comes with one-tap payments via on-screen fingerprint recognition.
Improved camera app
The new OS’s camera app now features this multi-functional ring that can apparently be used to focus on an object as well as do other things like exposure, image stabilization, and so forth.
There is also the custom swipe gesture system that adds a real-time effect to the viewfinder and allows you to add a quick and accurate effect on videos taken.
Better storage management
Gone will be the days when Android will zap all of your storage spaces because Vivo’s OriginOS Ocean now comes with memory slimming and memory fusion technology.
Privacy Features

When using vital services like camera, recording, and position, respective icons pop up on the right side of the status bar.
You can slide down those icons for more information. The Origin OS Ocean also comes with a Privacy System wherein you can swipe left from the bottom dock and enter your dedicated private space after verifying with your fingerprint.
Vivo adds that this private space features multiple layers of security by way of biometric verification as well as hardware-level encryption.
