You’ll be forgiven to have forgotten about the Motorola RAZR which despite so much hype around the release of the device came with a really disappointing list of features despite being sold for over a thousand dollars. The newly announced Galaxy Z Flip further nails down the RAZR in its coffin as Samsung continues to cement its presence in the foldable smartphone market.
However, Motorola is still showing some care for its product and will now be updating this device to the current Android 11 from Android 10. You might have rolled your eyes once again because of this announcement considering the fact that other high-end flagships like the Pixels had already gotten the update as far back as September of 2020.
Although Motorola initially announced the device as far back as 2019, it later released the RAZR 5G a year later in 2020. Although there continue to be rumors about the company planning to release a second-generation foldable device. Hopefully, they nail it this time around.
Although it may seem as if Motorola is always late at everything, please forgive them as they rolled out the Android 11 update on the 2020 RAZR 5G as early as April through to July. The first-gen 2019 model is the one that was left behind back then and now they’re sending the updates finally.

The company had also sent the Android 11 update to some of its other devices. The majority of them only get two years of security updates while some high-end variants get a major software update.
So if you received an update back in 2020, then this new update is your last – at least for those who could afford to get the foldable as other lesser devices which are not classified as “premium” are not treated nicely.
If you update to the new Android 11, you’ll get features like the chat app bubbles, better privacy permissions, and other cool efficiency features to help make your RAZR perform better than it is. And if you’re optimistic about getting the next Android 12 OS on your device, that may take several months again- if Motorola is generous enough.
