After releasing a new version of the firmware that will enhance the performances of the AIrPods Pro, Apple has further extended the update line-up to the AirPods 2 as well which now replaces the previous version dubbed 2A364. The update is free but can be tricky to manually install.
The update are automatically done when plugged in within the range of a charging iPhone so far both devices are paired up. The update is so seamless you might never noticce anything ever happened.
Apple didn’t comment on what the new update will do but it’s possibly meant to fix issues about pairing as well as sound oddities. The release will also help those who had replacement AirPods shipped from Apple for reasons unknown, were running an unreleased 2D3 firmware.
They were rendered unusable because they were on a different firmware than the other AirPod they were supposed to be paired with. This new update will bring both earbuds to the same software level.

You can check whether your AirPods are running any particular firmware update by making sure that they are paired and connected to an iOS device and following these steps:
- Open the Settings app and tap General.
- Tap About followed by AirPods.
The firmware number is listed beside “Firmware Version,” as you might expect.
