NASA has announced the first two astronauts that will be part of its sixth crewed mission via SpaceX rocket.
The astronauts are Stephen Bowen and Woody Hoburg both of whom will fly aboard the Crew-6 mission due to blast off to the ISS by the year 2023, according to a NASA statement published on December 16th.
The two astronauts will wear multiple hats as Bowen will be the spacecraft’s commander while Hoburg will serve as the pilot with two other mission specialists to be assigned at a future date by international partners on the station – according to the statement.
Bowen is a renowned spaceflight veteran who has completed about three stays on NASA’s space shuttle fleet.

During his previous missions, Bowen conducted seven spacewalks, and he previously served as a submarine officer.
However, the Crew-6 mission will be his long-duration visit to the space station.
Hoburg on the other hand was an assistant professor of aeronautics and astronautics at MIT where he focused on engineering systems.
He’s also a licensed commercial pilot and one of NASA’s 18 Artemis team astronauts from whom the agency will choose the crewmembers for its future Artemis 3 mission aimed at putting humans back on the moon.
