With over 150 million people in the US having access to private health insurance, a new report has it that they’ll soon be able to get one of the COVID-19 at-home test kits while their health insurance companies will then reimburse them.

According to CNET reporting on US President’s press briefing on Thursday, the test kit will reportedly be in the region of US$25 but whoever makes the purchase can claim the reimbursement through their insurance companies.

And those without health insurance can still have access to the free at-home COVID-19 testing kits.

The new initiative is in place to help combat the new coronavirus mutations such as the Omicron variant recently discovered while there is still an ongoing battle with the Delta variant.

According to health reports, the new Omicron variant of COVID-19 is said to have surfaced in both California and Michigan.

But back to the free at-home COVID-19 test kits, below are some frequently asked questions and other important things we think you should know.

The test kits will be free starting in January 2022

The at-home testing kits can be purchased but according to CNET’s report, health insurers will cover the cost of the testing kits for their customers starting by January 2022.

However, those who have visited a pharmacy and purchased the testing kit can present their proof of payment to their health insurer fr a reimbursement that may not be immediate according to the report.

The process is similar to visiting an on-site testing facility and submitting your bill to your health insurance provider. In this case, you’d likely just submit a copy of your receipt.

What is yet unknown is whether some locations will demand people’s health insurance cards in order to submit the bull to the insurance provider on behalf of the individual making the purchase

Where you can get the at-home COVID-19 test?

The at-home rapid COVID-19 tests can be gotten at pharmacies such as Walgreens, CVS, and even Walmart.

It’s also possible to purchase them online via Amazon. One question is whether the buyer will still be able to claim a reimbursement from their health insurance provider after purchasing the product online.

Each of the boxes typically comes with two tests, unless you buy in bulk.
