The space race between billionaires across the globe isn’t new any longer but it seems the 70-year-old CEO of the space tourism company Virgin Galactic, Richard Branson will be the first 21st century billionaire in space and the added advantage is the fact that he runs the company.
Branson will launch into the stratosphere on Sunday and if you’re like me, a space fanatics and science geek, then you might be interested in finding out how to watch the event at the comfort of your home in as much as there is a stable internet connection.
This will not be the first time that Branson will be going using strong tactics to promote his cause. Remember when he drove a tank to the 5th avenue to promote a cola brand, this time around, he’ll be launched in the SpaceShipTwo mounted on the company’s VSS Unity rocket in order to hit the stratosphere and a little beyond before coming back into the planet.
Virgin Galactic has spent tons of money on researches in other to develop a reliable architecture with which it can send people to space and finally ready. The flight will take about 90 minutes with the twin fuselage WhiteKnightTwo plane that will carry the VSS Unity into the clouds and then the Unity’s rocket engine will ignite and further propel the space vehicle around 90 kilometers where the crew will experience weightlessness in microgravity. It’s set to be a particularly historic moment for the ambitions of the ultra-rich to reach the edge of space.
Following the mission, a press conference is scheduled to occur at around 8:30 a.m. PT (11:30 p.m. ET).
With that said, Amazon founder and former CEO Jeff Bezos will also be onboard the first crewed Blue Origin rocket which will be heading to space by July 20th. Live coverage of the events will be held online and so you can tune in whenever you want.
