Huawei had been in hot water in the US since last year amid the US-China trade war which has also saw a number of Chinese telecommunication companies banned from operating in the country due to “National security” reasons. The US government wants to further extend the ban till the year 2021 as the US President, Donald Trump has extended the May 2019 order to barring US Companies from buying telecommunication equipment from Huawei citing “security” reasons.

And the Commerce Department followed up on Friday when it extended a temporary license that allows some American companies to work with the Chinese company.

Huawei had for long been a target of t he US government over its networking equipment citing the company’s ties with the Chinese Communist regime which creates fear that its equipment could be used to spy on other countries and companies which might cause intellectual theft. The Commerce Department blacklisted Huawei after Trump’s order effectively banned the company from US communications networks.

The department also extended a temporary license issued that will allow some American companies to work with Huawei until August 13th and is expected to be the final of such extension.

Neither the White House, the Commerce Department nor Huawei responded to requests for comment.
