The US is super hit up with the cases of the Coronavirus but then the US President believes fighting the deadly virus which had claimed the lives of thousands is based on the state’s capacity.
The President even said during a press briefing back in March that Governors are supposed to be doing a lot of the tasks related to curbing the number of cases in their individual state.
“the federal government is not supposed to be out there buying vast amounts of items, and then shipping. We’re not a shipping clerk. As with testing—the governors are supposed to be doing it.” Said President Trump.
But then the president also said in a Tweet earlier this month of April that all states have enough of medical supplies needed to combat the Novel-Coronavirus stating any state which says otherwise is basically lying for political reasons.

“Some have insatiable appetites & are never satisfied (politics?). Remember, we are a backup for them. The complainers should have been stocked up and ready long before this crisis hit.” He tweeted.
But then reports has it that Jared Kushner who is the head of government’s response to the coronavirus is said to have informed the president that governors are basically exaggerating the impact of the outbreak. Another report has it the President claiming that federal stockpile of emergency medical supplies aren’t meant for states. “The notion of the federal stockpile was it’s supposed to be our stockpile; it’s not supposed to be state stockpiles that they then use.” He said during another press briefing over the COVID-19 outbreak. Neither Kushner nor Trump ever clarified who “our” refers to or who the federal stockpile is for if not Americans who live in those states.
But then there was another report whereby states’ own medical supplies were being confiscated endlessly. Based on reports from the Los Angeles Times, the federal government, after waiting nearly two months acquire life-saving ventilators and N95 masks, has been seizing equipment from hospitals all over the country, confiscating them with no explanation.
But according to a FEMA representative who gave reasons for this action stated that medical supplies are being redirected to cities where they are much more needed unlike those states that needs them less. Meanwhile there have been numerous measures to meet supplies which can be used to better fight the disease.
It’s as if states which are pro-Trump gets whatever they requested in full unlike other cities who aren’t making the approach to saving lives now politicized and that is killing numerous people within the country.
“We can’t get any answers,” one California hospital official told the Times. Another said, “Are they stockpiling this stuff? Are they distributing it? We don’t know. And are we going to ever get any of it back if we need supplies? It would be nice to know these things.”
Even PeaceHealth which runs a 10 hospital system in the Pacific northwest and Alaska got their shipment for testing seized “We had put wheels in motion with testing and protective equipment to allow us to secure and protect our staff and our patients,” said Richard DeCarlo, the system’s chief operating officer. “It’s incredibly frustrating,” he added.
Meanwhile Andrew Cuomo of New York then advised states to instead come together and then buy medical supplies from private suppliers instead of bidding against one another at the federal level.
“On purchasing, you can’t have a situation where 50 states are competing with each other to buy the same material,” he said. “That is what is happening now. We’re literally bidding up the prices ourselves.”
But this kind of effort should be made by the federal government in order to further help the state government in fulfilling it’s task of fighting the pandemic but this isn’t the case as of now. It’s as though the federal government is even in competition with the state government in terms of who receives what first.
The head of the Texas Association of Community Health Centers, Jose Camacho, told the Times his group was trying to purchase a small order of just 20,000 masks, and the federal government bought it out from under them. “Everyone says you are supposed to be on your own,” Camacho said. “Then to have this happen, you just sit there wondering what else you can do. You can’t fight the federal government.” The federal government is reported to have distributed some expired medical supplies numbering in thousands.
