Since the COVID-19 lockdown, a large number of people have turned to smart tvs but this trend didn’t just start in 2020 but over the cost of few years before now but one company that seems to have dominated the industry had been Samsung whose position in the Smart TV market remains unchallenged.
While there are different smart tv operating systems in the market, Android TV seems to be the common operating systems in these smart TV but then there is Samsung which uses its own Tizen OS based on Linux.
The popularity of the South Korean’s smart TV in the market helped push its operating system to the height it is right now right above the likes of ROKU, Amazon’s Fire TV and of course the popular Android TV.
Another contributor to this fame is due to the gigantic sales Samsung made in the third quarter of the year 2020 allowing the company to be ranked among the top streaming TV platforms.

Strategy Analytics reported that the Tizen OS holds a whooping 12% of the connected TV devices in the market ahead of other platforms such as the WebOS from LG, Sony PlayStation, Roku TV OS, Amazon Fire TV OS, and Google’s Android TV.
It also revealed that Samsung managed to sell 11.8 million Smart TVs worldwide in Q3 2020, which represents the best-ever quarter by Samsung so far and no other manufacturer has reached this level.
And the report also showed that the Samsung’s Tizen OS account for over 155 million units of Smart TV current in circulation which gives it a 23% increase unlike the previous year.
Samsung is also reportedly attempting to monetize the platform due to the rise in the number of users. Who knows what the might push but definitely not some intrusive ads found on cheap smartphones.
