After revealing earlier this week about its new conviction, Microsoft had related its concern for overheating of power cords.
If you bought a Surface Pro, Surface Pro 2, or Surface Pro 3 in the US or Canada before March 15th then you can apply now for a free cord replacement.
If you purchased a device outside of the US or Canada before July 15th then it’s also affected by the recall. Microsoft’s latest Surface Pro 4 is unaffected.
“While there are no reports of serious injury, a small number of our customers have reported this issue and we are taking action to address by making free replacement cords available to all eligible customers,”

says a Microsoft spokesperson.
The newer replacement actually affects the AC power cord that connects straight to a power socket instead of the direct connect to a Surface Pro.
Microsoft is actually planning to supply a one AC Power cord replacement all for free if charge for each of the eligible Surface Pro devices.
You can find out if your device is affected by checking your serial number at Microsoft’s Surface support site.
