So when the less than “less than exciting” Microsoft XBox Series X demo showed up last week, people aren’t just having it but the table somehow turned in the favor of Sony’s PlayStation 5 Game console which is after an Unreal5 announcement and demo reel showed off what is real-time footage of a tech demon running on PS5 hardware. And yes, it was impressive if you may ask.
There is a tech demonstration about the performances of the much anticipated game console and everything was said to be running in-engine and in real-time so something of that degree can be expected when the PS5 finally ships worldwide. Although we’ve seen enough demos like this over the years to remain skeptical.
Another interesting thing is that Unreal Engine 5 will have support for both current and next-gen consoles and even PC, Mac, iOS and Android platforms which gives the power of cross platform for real. Epic Game says it wants to be able to offer “photorealism on par with movie CG and real life,” which is certainly a lofty goal and one that we hear pretty much every time a new generation of game consoles is around the corner.
But let’s just assume that we keep our fingers crossed and this meets up with our anticipation or maybe you just calm down first until the release of this console to see how powerful it can get for real.
