Have you ever found yourself in a situation whereby you’re unable to turn on the Mobile Hotspot on your Windows PC? This can be a very annoying situation but in this short guide, we’ll elaborate on how to get things back on track.
In most cases, the inability to turn on the Mobile Hotspot is because the toggle is greyed out for whatever reason best known to your computer – even if that makes any sense.
How to Fix Mobile Hotspot Greyed Out on Windows 10
Due to the fact that your Windows 10 Mobile Hotspot feature is greyed out, a WiFi connection is certainly impossible to make with any device.
One of the main reasons for this as displayed above in red text is due to the fact that you have no active network coming in through your computer in the first place hence, it cannot share what it doesn’t have with other devices.
Normally, you’re supposed to be either connected to an existing Wireless network or connected to the internet via an Ethernet cable or even a tethered mobile wireless hotspot from your smartphone.
Whatever the case may be, here’s how to quickly fix this issue.
- First of all, check if you have Flight Mode turned on
- Secondly, check whether you have WiFi turned off.
In order to check whether you have Flight Mode turned on, all you have to do is click on the network icon (at the bottom right corner next to the date and battery icons) on the status bar.
Then click on the “Aeroplane” icon to turn off the Flight Mode or click on it to turn it on if that’s what you want to do. Another way to confirm this is to click on the search icon next to the Windows icon and then search for the term “Flight Mode” and then click on it.
Check if the highlighted button is “On”. If yes, then turn it off.
The second issue as mentioned earlier is the fact that you might have WiFi turned off. But it’s also not a big problem because it can be turned off by simply heading to the network area at the bottom right corner and clicking on the network icon (next to battery and date).
From the pop-up tray, click on the WiFi button/icon to turn it on if it’s turned off, or head back to the search area and enter the term WiFi. Click on it and check if the button is turned off.
Mobile Hotspot on your Windows 10 will no longer be greyed out. You can now turn it on and share your internet connection
How to Fix Mobile Hotspot Greyed Out on iPhone
The same is applicable to mobile operating systems such as iOS. If for whatever reason, your mobile hotspot on your iPhone is greyed out, your device’s Airplane mode may be turned on.
In order to fix this issue, simply head to your iPhone’s setting app and then turn the AirPlane mode off
To resolve mobile hotspot greyed out on iPhone:
- First, head over to Settings and turn off Airplane mode if it’s on.
- Still within the Settings app, go to Mobile Data and then toggle on the switch beside it to turn on mobile data.
How to Resolve Mobile Hotspot Greyed Out on Android
Neearly the same rule applies to your Android smartphone as well. All you have to do is to swipe down the notification center and look for the AirPlane Mode icon which is usually represented by an aeroplane (if that’s the reason) why you’re unable to turn on your devie’s mobile hotspot.
But there could also be some other settings such as Data Saver. In order to fix this, all you have to do is head over to your Android phone’s settings page and then do the following:
- First of all, click on Connections
- Then locate Data Usage (by scrolling down on the page)
- Next is to click on Data Saver option and then deactivate the feature.
