Xiaomi started the rollout of its MiUI 12.5 update in China at the ending of July and the update will now be heading to the Indian market as well but for a selected number of devices such as the Redmi 9 Prime and the Poco M2.
Both of these devices haven’t gotten the current Android 11 update compared to the international variants of these same devices. The Redmi 9 Prime is sold as just Redmi 9 in other international markets and sports some pretty cool specs despite its affordable price point. Then there is the Poco M2 which is almost identical to the Redmi 9 but in different color options.
The MiUI 12.5 is based on the current Android 11 update and comes with the build number V12.5.1.0.RJRINXM while the same build number applies to its Redmi 9 Prime counterpart in India. Both the builds also come with August 2021 security patches.
The release will be based on batches which means some devices may get it before others. How soon the update will reach the entire users of these devices throughout India is yet unknown but it shouldn’t take more than a couple of days.

Xiaomi has been criticized in the past for its late adoption of new updates for its devices compared to other brands like Samsung. The aforementioned devices will be getting their first-ever Android 11 update since they were released however, there is no hope they could get the next Android 12 update even though they may get the MiUI 13 in the near future.
