OPPO unveiled its own foldable smartphone, the Find N, and the device looks pretty polarizing for some reason we’ll eventually get to later in this post.

But for the goodies, the device came in a rather small package and offer some improved visual experience in terms of the firmware and looks interesting.

Currently, the OPPO Find N is currently in China but there are reports about an international release.

Speaking of first impression, the OPPO Find N is quite bulky when compared to other foldable smartphones and that’s because two smartphones are sandwiched together using a hinge.

But the tiny size of the device is what really makes it polarizing as mentioned earlier.

First, you get a smartphone the size of iPhone 13 Mini when closed but heavier at 275 grams and thicker. But because it’s small, your thumb should be able to move across the screen to tap on whatever icon you want to interact with.

The external display is a 5.49-inch AMOLED panel with a 60Hz refresh rate which is another polarizing feature despite the fact that OPPO claims that it wants to make foldable smartphones a necessity with the introduction of its Find N.

With such a claim, I would expect a device that tackles the main problems that the majority of potential foldable smartphones have but this device easily placed itself behind Samsung and Huawei but I digress.

As for the inner display, you get a slightly bigger 7.1-inch AMOLED panel with a fast 120Hz refresh rate of course.

There is an additional 1792 x 1920 FHD+ resolution with a square-ish display. The screen’s brightest state peaks at 500 nits which again, isn’t as impressive but I’m still going to keep focusing on the good parts.

Speaking of the good parts, the device has this nice clicky hinge that snaps every time you close it.

OPPO also claims that the hinge can serve you for over 5 years no matter how often you open or close it.

But the most interesting thing is how well built the hinge is. The OPPO Find N can be opened to whatever angle you’d like and it will maintain the angle.

The company also eliminated that gaps between each screens when folded. That protects the screen from debris that can potentially ruin the soft plastic internal screen.

Another cool thing about the display is the fact that it eliminates the crease by nearly 80%. Compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 3, the OPPO Find N follows in the trails of Huawei Mate X2 in managing its crease.

Away from the internal display and moving to the back of the device, it sports OPPO’s high-tech camera sensors such as a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor, a 30MP selfie sensor.

There are other cameras within the internal display located within a hole-punch cut out. Picture quality is very much above average especially when taken in good lighting conditions.

The device also feature the high-end Snapdragon 888 chipset with an 8GB of RAM with 256GB of storage. The device’s price point starts around US$1,210 or CNY 7,699.

As much as I try not to talk negative about the OPPO Find N, the device is good in its own way but it’s certainly not a replacement for the Galaxy Z Fold 3 considering the fact that foldable devices were meant to be the ultimate multi-tasking device hence the big screen that can be folded into a smaller form factor.

Unless OPPO did their research well enough and have a specific target audience, the OPPO Find N will still rest behind the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or even the Huawei Mate X2.
