The ASUS ROG Phone 5 series is already the best smartphone with the best battery in 2021 but don’t just take my words for it. The new gaming smartphone comes with some maxed-up specifications such as great display, great battery, great processor, great design and definitely a great price point even though we are not sure about the price point yet as their isn’t anything official about that.

The lineup includes a total of three smartphone variants with the base model being the ASUS ROG Phone 5 and then there is the ROG Phone 5 Pro and ROG Phone 5 Ultimate which is the peak of this model.

For those hose unaware of ASUS, the company is one of the very few companies that likes to stand out of the large crowd and release great products with it. The company’s line of products include smartphones, laptops and other consumer electronics but the obvious thing is usually the look and feel of their devices.

ASUS ROG Phone 5 Series Design

In terms of the design of the ROG Phone 5, the company has repurposed this device to being an all-round device. It doesn’t look like a weird gaming smartphone any longer but a much more matured device with some sleek and unique build quality.

ASUS took things to the extreme with the design with the white color variant looking pretty cool thanks to the matte finish that doesn’t attract any fingerprint. Compared to the previous ROG Phone 3, the ROG Phone 5 comes with a weird secondary display at the back of the device which can be customized to display any simple information.

As mentioned in the begging, there are three devices in the lineup. Although all three have an identical design except for the color and the secondary screen.

As mentioned above, the vanilla ROG Phone 5 sports a dot-matrix RGB LED that displays the device’s logo at the back just the same as the ROG Zephyrus G14 AniMe Matrix while the ROG Phone 5 Pro has a color POMLED display that the ASUS calls the ROG Vision and for the high-end ROG 5 Ultimate, it also come with the same ROG Vision which is a Monocrhome display which can be customized to anything.

ASUS even stunned us more with the inclusion of a 3.5mm headphone jack on the device despite being a premium flagship smartphone with some high-end features. There is also the Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protecting the massive 6.8-inch OLED display of the device while the back is made with the Gorilla Glass 3.

As for colors, the ROG Phone 5 Ultimate comes in a single white color option with a blue accent as well as a matte finish. The ROG Phone 5 Pro, on the other hand, features a glossy black color finish. Lastly, the regular ROG Phone 5 can be bought in either Phantom Black or Storm White color option with a glossy finish.

ASUS ROG Phone 5 Series Specifications

The number point of attention is the powerful Snapdragon 888 chipset that powers the ROG Phone 5 series paired with a couple of maxed-up features like the 16GB to 18GB of LPDDR5 RAM and a 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The extra 2GB of LPDDR5 RAM is for the ROG Phone 5 which puts it at a whooping 18GB of RAM for a smartphone. Those numbers are really insane but that’s what ASUS does. The device is meant for insane gaming and that’s what the design is also meant for.

In terms of the display, it comes with a 6.78-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display (E4) with about 144Hz refresh rate and 24.3ms touch latency, 300Hz touch sampling rate and an in-screen fingerprint sensor. The screen resolution is 2448 x 1080 pixels which might not be a high number for some people but if you consider the refresh rate and touch sampling, then you’ll be intrigued by this.

This panel has a 20.4:9 aspect ratio, 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio, 395 PPI, Delta-E<1 color accuracy, and 800 nits peak brightness. The screen supports HDR10+ and covers 111% and 150.89% of DCI-P3 and sRGB color gamuts respectively.

On the connectivity front, these handsets support 5G, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and dual-frequency GNSS (GPS, Globass, Galileo, BeiDou, QZSS, NavIC). As for ports, as mentioned earlier, the devices sport a 3.5mm headphone jack and 2 x USB Type-C ports.

Gaming smartphones are known to always suffer in terms of camera because they’re specifically made just for gaming not taking selfies or recording videos but ASUS will stop at nothing to make this device the true “Premium flagship”.

In the camera department, it has a tripe setup with its primary sensor being a 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor along with a 13MP ultra-wide sensor and then a 5MP macro lens while there is a 24MP front-facing camera for selfies and video calls.

Still on the fact that this device is a maxed up smartphone, it in fact comes with a group detection sensor with Ultrasonic sensors for AirTrigger 5, Pixelworks i6 Processor, dual stereo speakers and Nokia OZO Audio with dual Cirrus Logic CS35L45 Mono AMP, ESS Sabre ES9280AC Pro QUAD DAC, lots of gaming-oriented features, and Android 11 operating system with both ZenUI as well as ROG UI. The Pro and Ultimate models also have two additional touch sensors on the back.

To make the device power efficient, ASUS user a dual-3000mAh battery on the device which brings the overall battery capability to 6000mAh with 65W fast charging (some regions will be getting only 30W)and unlike Apple, Xiaomi and Samsung, ASUS included a power brick in the box of the device.

The power system uses the Qualcomm Quick Charge 5.0 technology.

Last but not least, the ROG Phone 5 series measure 172.8 x 77.2 x 10.29mm in dimensions and weighs 238g. So despite so many components within the device its still not too thick or heavy like a metal.

Unfortunately, ASUS has not revealed the pricing for other than these two regions.

Some hands on test of the ASUS ROG Phone 5 shower that the device’s camera is powerful and shoot really crisp photographs and is able to record high resolution videos.

This and many more will we test out when we get our hands on our review unit of the ROG Phone 5. However, just know that nothing seems to beat this device just yet until other OEMs can release a much better smartphone with maxed up features like this.
