The GMC is reinventing the Hummer but this time around, its being brought back as an electric truck with some pretty cool design and high-tech with performances all in one. This will further put the truck in a closer place right up next to the Tesla’s Cybertruck.

We all can remember the Hummer trucks which were discontinued back in 2010 as a fuel-guzzling beast. The vehicle is now taking an entirely different route as being a complete “electric supertruck” with zero emissions.

The newly introduced trucks will come with three motors that can generate 1,000 horsepower and can run a 350 miles when its fully charged. Aside that, the speed is one other interesting aspect of the GMC Hummer EV which is its ability to go from 0 MPH to 60 MPH under just 3 seconds. That’s pretty impressive.

Other cool features includes the truck being able to adjust its suspension electronically from within the car up to about 6 inches for off-road situations and it can drive diagonally thanks to development of its motors which can work independently as well. The diagonal driving support is called “Crab Mode”

This will be GMC’s first full-electric vehicle and is set to enter production in late 2021.

“The irony is not lost on anyone that this former gas-guzzler is coming back as an electric vehicle,” said Ivan Drury, Edmunds‘ senior manager of insights. “With that said, by demonstrating that ‘big’ doesn’t necessarily mean inefficient, the HUMMER EV also represents a monumental paradigm shift.”

With so much to say about the GMC Hummer EV, the vehicle is also going to quite pricey with the entry price point being at about US$79,995 while the high-end model will be about US$112,595. Despite this, the company stated that reservation sold out within an hour even though the company didn’t reveal the numbers.

And for electric trucks, the price increases, Drury said, and will “squeeze buyers’ wallets on a completely new level.”

Other cool things about the GMC Hummer EV includes having a number of cameras around the truck to allow drivers see the car in 360 degree mode as well as underneath the truck for off-road situations. The pickup bed measures 5 feet and the truck make use of every single space of it as a storage compartment.

A good example would be the back sit which can take up to three passengers. Each all have the a mini safe which can be pulled open to reveal the small storage compartments.

Then the back bench has great leg room space which is pretty decent for the truck and the same goes for the front as well. The roof can be entirely removed and stored at the front storage compartment of the truck.

“There is the issue of launch timing and delivery,” Drury said. “With all of these trucks launching over the next year or two, customers will have to debate whether it’s worth rolling the dice and placing a reservation this far out without a test drive.”
