One of the biggest report we have about the Galaxy Note 20 series rumors is that the device will be released by August 5th which is just in a matter of weeks. The Galaxy Note series have always been the peak of Samsung’s smartphones every year except for the 2017’s Galaxy Note 7.
This time around, Samsung is said to have tweaked up the Note 20 series even more with a much larger variant which would be called the “Galaxy Note 20 Ultra” taking up the name of it’s sibling Galaxy S20 Ultra which is the largest among the S 20 series released for 2020.
While all these are based on reports, leaks and rumors, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will then be released alongside other Note 20 variants as well as the much rumored Galaxy Fold 2 as well as a 5G version of the Galaxy Z Flip which is obviously a lot of smartphones being released the same time. In fact, the report furthered by stating the sales time of the Note 20 series to being August 20th
But the time might just not be feasible considering the current issue of the COVID-19 pandemic which is currently on the rise worldwide with 9 million cases reported. Even South Korea, Samsung’s home country is seeing a spike in the number of cases being reported according to reports from Associated Press.
But the COVID-19 pandemic might not be the only issue that might affect the launch of a smartphone too soon. There is also protest worldwide about the death of George Floyd prompting BlackLivesMatter protest as a result of this and the current state of economy which had led to millions of job loss worldwide all which might just contribute to why the time might not be feasible but who am I to judge.

The reception of an expensive flagship might not be entirely good but again that’s left for consumers to decide meanwhile it’s worth noting that Samsung had some losses during time of the pandemic which saw companies like Huawei taking the number one largest smartphone manufacturer from the South Korean giant back in April.

Let’s talk about leaks of the Galaxy Note 20

Ice Universe, a well reputable leaker dropped a spec sheet of the Galaxy Note 20 just few days ago and this specifications are meant to be for the larger Galaxy Note 20 Ultra, the device varoant is suggested to sport a two curved screens as well as really thin bezels as well as a slightly smaller body frame compared to the current Galaxy Note 10 Plus.
Meanwhile back in April, Samsung did make us realise it’s working on another Note smartphone just that what the device would be actually called as well as specifications isn’t officially revealed. And with that said, the August 5th launch and the 20th sales might be hindered by different circumstances including the Pandemic and other phenomenon beyond Samsung’s control.
But even if Samsung decides to further with the launching of the Galaxy Note series, it’s definitely going to be a virtual event which many top-tier tech firms have been opting for including the current Apple WWDC 2020 event.

Since last year, Samsung had been releasing more than a single Galaxy Note 10 and that tend would likely continue this year which is what prompted the specifications of the Note 20 series to range from the entry-level Note 20 and then a Note 20 Plus and then a much more expensive but feature-rich Note 20 Ultra at least based on the rumors and speculations.
Although the number of Galaxy Note 20 series expected were just two until Ice Universe brought about the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra in his tweet which added up the third high-end variant to the list. But among the devices that Samsung could announce along the Note 20 series would be the Galaxy Fold 2 which TechRadar post, citing a tweet from display analyst Ross Young that’s now unavailable. The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra which seems to be the focus is definitely going to be a much larger device as rumor has it could peak 7.0-inch Super AMOLED display with a really tall aspect ratio.
Since the Huawei Mate 20 X 5G, most flagship smartphones never exceeded the 6-inch region. Based on the rumors and leaks, the three Galaxy Note 20 devices will have varying screen sizes according to details from the likes of Pigtou, Phone Arena and Ice Universe, citing additional tweets from Young that are no longer available (SamMobile posted the text here):
- Galaxy Note 20: 6.4 to 6.7 inches (From Young: 6.42 inches tall, 2,345×1,084-pixel resolution)
- Galaxy Note 20 Plus: 6.9 inches (From Pigtou: 165 millimeters tall, 77.2mm wide and 7.6mm thick)
- Galaxy Note 20 Ultra: Over 7 inches (QHD+ screen and 120Hz option can be on at the same time.)

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra could sport a 120Hz Refresh rate
Since the Galaxy S20 Ultra could get a 120Hz refresh rate, it would be suggestive to assume that the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra could get the same feature to go with it’s massive display size which would make the device a much more game playing device due to the immersive display and then the refresh rate.
Meanwhile the refresh rate on the Galaxy Note 20 wouldn’t mean it would be power intense as Ice Universe further put it while another Tech blog Galaxy Club further reiterated that the device would consume 15% to 20% less energy than the Galaxy S20 Ultra which had been known to drain battery quicker with the 120Hz refresh rate turned on.
The Galaxy Note 20 series should support 5G
5G isn’t new to Android smartphone any longer as numerous mid-range Android devices already sport this tech not to mention the fact that the Galaxy S20 already have support for the network so it would be safe to suggest that too with the Galaxy Note 20 series and even if not all of them have it, the mid to high tier of the device would definitely sport this feature.
But let’s talk a little bit about the naming of the Galaxy Note 20
I wouldn’t be a surprising thing if we see a Galaxy Note 20 because the company seems to have adopted the “20” branding since the beginning of the decade instead of opting for Galaxy S11, the company rather went for S20 which is like a jump from the previous S10 line and that same phenomenon could happen to the Note series so we wouldn’t be seeing a Note 11 at least as rumors suggests.
Now the design aspect of the Galaxy Note 20 series
There is one trend about the Samsung’s smartphones since the beginning of the year and that’s the company reverting from the curvy display to a more flat design which isn’t bad at all. That trend could also be extended to the Galaxy Note 20 series and of course the inclusion of the stylus won’t be a surprise.
Based on these suggestions, the Galaxy Note 20 might just look very similar to the Galaxy S20 series with the hole-pinch camera module at the top center of the display just as we’ve seen on the Galaxy S20 series. The back of the device could also feature a nearly-same camera module which is rectangular.
The camera capability could include the Space Zoom
The most anticipated aspect of the Galaxy Note 20 series would be the camera department and the thoughts whether the device will have support for the 100x Space Zoom technology which was included in the 20 Ultra which is AI-Assisted.
If Samsung doesn’t include Space Zoom, as Twitter leakers Ice Universe and Sleepy Kuma seem to suggest (via the Korea Joongang Daily), it could be read as a rare admission of defeat on Samsung’s end that its marquee feature didn’t hit the right notes.
So what cameras could we see? According to the Korea Joongang Daily and Ice Universe (via Weibo chat app):
- Galaxy Note 20: 12-megapixel wide-angle (main), 64-megapixel telephoto, 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle
- Galaxy Note 20 Plus: 108-megapixel (main), 12-megapixel telephoto, 12-megapixel ultrawide-angle. 50x zoom. Laser focus could help fine-tune focus in close-up shots (an issue for the Galaxy S20 phones).
Still on the camera department, it’s obvious that one of the devices would sport a large 108MP sensor just as we saw on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
A juicy rumor is going around that the Galaxy Note 20 could use Samsung’s first-ever camera that sits beneath the display. If true, it means that the sensor wouldn’t be visible most of the time. It might be that you may only “see” the sensor when using an app that works with the camera, for example, to indicate where to look when you’re taking a selfie or video chatting.
Galaxy Note 20’s battery, processor, storage size, RAM
There is nothing certain just yet about the Galaxy Note 20 series in terms of the specifications and other important specs including the battery, processor and RAM size but there are some likely suggestions based on reports from media outlets like the ZDNet Korea, Phone Arena and Galaxy Club.
- Processor: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865, Samsung Exynos 990 or Exynos 992
- Internal storage: 128GB or 256GB
- RAM: 8GB, 12GB, 16GB
- Battery: Note 20: 4,000mAh. Note 20 Plus: 4,500mAh
It could upgrade to Android 11 but come with Android 10
While the Galaxy Note 20 series might be launched in just few weeks to come based on rumors and reports, the likelihood of the device running the next Android 11 version out of the box isn’t certain but there is every possibility that it would upgrade to this version down the line when Samsung is able to better fine tune the One UI to work well with the next-gen Android OS.
Furthermore, Google postponed its virtual event for June 3 in response to the protests that began sweeping the US on May 26. The software giant intended to make Android 11 beta available to all Android users, not just to developers as it is now — a crucial step before releasing the final software update.

Speaking of pricing of the Galaxy Note 20 series
Galaxy Note phones are not for the budget buyer. Or at least that’s how the lineup has been since its early days. I’d expect the Note 20 and Note 20 Plus to largely follow last year’s pricing structure.
GALAXY NOTE 10 VS NOTE 10 PLUS PRICES
Galaxy Note 10 | Galaxy Note 10 Plus | |
---|---|---|
Price off-contract (USD) | $949 | $1,099 |
Price (GBP) | £899 | £999 |
Price (AUD) | AU$1,499 | AU$1,699 |
For sure, this high-end device will likely cost between the region of US$800 to US$1500 if that doesn’t sound too outrageous. But the fact that each Galaxy Note gets a bit of a price bump from the previous model might just indicate that this is another US1000 phone so prepare the budget for it. Bu the reception of such pricing might be mixed as well as the current state of the economy might be a hindrance to achieving this but that doesn’t mean Samsung won’t sell a handful of the device. That’s it for now about the Galaxy Note 20 rumors.
