iFixit, the company that repairs damaged gadgets is at it again after recently taking apart the new Galaxy S21 giving it a rating based on its reparability on a scale of 1 to 10.
The new Samsung’s flagship device scored a modest 4 out of 10 which despite the rating is still quite easier to fi in case of damage compared to the previous Galaxy S20 released last year.
In a GSMArena’s report, the reparability of the new device is slightly better than the previous one even though there isn’t an exclusive rating by iFixit.
The video below was released by the company taking us through the components within the device which includes plastic back that can be pulled out easily compared to the glass back of the previous generation which is usually prone to cracking when mishandled.
Another thing is the fact that Samsung has switched from the curved screens to flat which is also easy to detach in case the screen is damaged or needs to be replaced. However, there is still a big issue with the device’s battery which is really tough to pull apart which could explode if not handled well enough.
Samsung is notorious about gluing its device’s battery to the back of the internal frame of their phones and that is the case with the new Galaxy S21 which has led to the low rating in terms of the reparability overall.
One of the reasons why premium devices are so hard to fix or tear apart is due to the fact that they have all the components within them. Multiple cameras, bigger batteries, different sensors and so much more all which can make the devices hard to repair despite costing a fortune.
Samsung unlike Apple still try to make their devices easy to fix compared to the latter which is notorious for always making unique components to the extent of making its very own screw driver’s head.
