Huawei’s Watch 2 was awesome when it debut last year and now we’re on to the next upgrade which is the Watch 3 series and its expected to come in two variants – Watch 3 and 3 Pro.

Both smartwatches are expected to run the company’s proprietary HarmonyOS 2.0 and the devices are expected to debut today in China at 8PM. The Chinese tech giant will also release its MatePad tablets with the smartwatch.

While nothing official is out – though there were buzzes around the release, there have been an impatient Twitter user Snoopy as well a the reliable tipster Evan Blass both of whom shared leaked press renders of the devices and if Huawei releases what we saw, it’ll definitely be an awesome smartwatch with pretty decent design aesthetics.

Based on the render, the device has a black body and a brown leather strap but there is also option for black leather straps. The device also feature a round-shaped dial just like the previous model.

The numbered dial will be on the Watch 3 Pro while the base model won’t have this feature.

One of the cool things immediately noticed on the curved glass around the display which looks quite cool but that may come with protection concerns.

As for the specifications, we’re expecting a 1.43-inch AMOLED display with a 466 x 466 pixels of resolution and a 362PPI pixel density. That in itself is good enough for a flagship smartwatch from a big brand like Huawei.

In terms of the hardware, the device come with a round-shaped knob and a flat button which rumor has it can be used for various things. Being a smartwatch, the Huawei Watch 3 series is expected to be a standalone for making phone calls and so forth.

While it may never really offer support for SIM card and other external injection systems, that still put the device as dependent on its host smartphone for communication. And it should be able to work with any Android smartphone.

It’ll miss 5G but will come with the LTE technology with Hi6262 chip onboard alongside the HarmonyOS to give it all the power it needs to work efficiently.

If the rumor that the Huawei Watch 3 series can work with third-party applications is true, this will be a big achievement and could further open the device up to the world rather than being restricted to the limited number of first-party applications made by the OEM onboard.

As far as other specs go, it will come with a 2GB of RAM and a 16GB of internal storage and is expected to also offer support for e-SIM, Wi-Fi and GPS which will make a good health tracking device.

The body will be made of stainless-steel and that can be confirmed based on the text written behind the watch cover. It’s also mentioned to offer 5ATM water resistance.

It is unclear how the Watch 3 Pro differs from the Watch 3 in terms of specifications.

As for the pricing, not a word or rumor is said about it but it could sit in the region of US$199 to US$250.
