With the US-China trade war still on-going, sections from the United States on China’s big tech companies have prompted the need to build their own chipset manufacturing sector in an attempt to reduce their reliance on third-party suppliers from other countries and Huawei one of the biggest in the country has reached the milestone of building its own.

A recent report has it that Huawei has developed its own chipset manufacturing factory called the Wuhan Huawei Optical Factory Project (Phase II) which is said to have its territory spread across 208,900 sq. meters and located in Wuhan Optics Valley Center.

The company is also said to be the largest Research & Development base in China’s central region among which are FAB Production, CUB Power Station, PMD Software Factory as well as other supporting facilities.

The new development will further serve as the company’s internal optical capability center, smart terminal R&D center, and other advanced tech development.

Upon completion, Huawei will begin its first chip manufacturing factory in China which will enable the the company to have a complete semiconductor industrial chain which will include chip design, manufacturing as well as testing and packaging.

Aside this, Huawei is also reportedly working on building another chipset factory in Shanghai which will be managed by a Shanghai-based R&D company on behalf of Huawei.

It’s said that the development of the chipset factory will not be completed with the current leaders. The company is said to start making 45nm chips by next year and then proceed to 28nm chipset a year later by 2022. In comparison, this isn’t as superb as the current 5nm chipsets being developed by other well established chip makers.
