For those noobs who are usually scared of the facts when told “Create a MySQL database and …” Well, i would love to work you trhough some very little guide to creeating a MySQL database in PHPMyAdmin. The approach isnt a tough job. Depending on your host network, your way of creating a database using the PHPMy Admin style would differ. Assuming you try installing WordPress and your host (Like most hosts ) Offer you a One-Click install option, you can simply check the “Create a Database” button but if you try installing a script which isnt present in your One-click optin, then yu might be facing the “daunting” task of having to create one yourself!
So here we go!
To create a database, first thing to do is click on your host panel and sign in to your C-Panel and if you use Dreamhost, you can then click login to your Web panel which is very different to C-panel in its outlook althoguh they function nearly the same way. Now all you need to do is click on the Database section and locate your PHPMyAdmin section. Assuming you are using IPage, you dont need to create a Database from the PHPMyAdmin pane but Look up for the MySQL Database section and then click. Now, i would like to figure out the three style for you to understand quiet well. Since approaches towards each hosts are different, then i would nicely carve each out here below.
1. Dreamhost: When you try creating your new Database in Dreamhost, all you have to do is simply click on the Goodies pane which hides series of other menus. Now, below those hidden menu would be the Manage Domain. Clicking on this would take you to a new interface where you would see some options. Since you havent created any database, you would only see a button and some pre-filled forms. Now, start from the beginning by filling the form with each details as you might want it which include Your Database Name, The Database Username and then the Database Password. After creating that, then proceed to the Create Button below and then this run a query and gives you a success result if you filled your form correctly. Now, there would be a new button added to that screen which is “Back to Databases” Clicking on that table would take you to a new screen where you would be able to do other things like viewing the PHPMyAdmin (Which would be located as parts of the Database’s menu.) remember that Dreamhost’s PHPMyAdmin would request for your Database login details which you actually used to create it earlier. These details include your Username and Password and not your Host Username and password.
2. IPage: In Ipage, Approach is quiet different. All you need to do here is locate the MySQL database and then clicking on it would show you a new window where you can add a new database. If you havent had any, the interface would be blank and all you need to do is click on the create button and then enter the details below. After you must have done this, then the next thing to do is click the “Create” button which runs a querry and if details were right would give you a successful output and then from there, you just hover at the newly created database and then click on the PHPMyAdmin pane which opens a new windows for the PHPMyAdmin for you to do whatever you want to do and unlike Dreamhost which would ask you login with your Database details, Ipage would take you to the corresponding database.
3. Normal PHPMyAdmin: This is quiet simpler. If you are a new developer and you want to work using your new XAMPP, MAMP, WAMP server, you might need to create databases before using most scripts. Now, getting familiar would be quiet easy since the window to the PHPMyAdmin is usually in your reach. Now to do this, go to your panel. In my case, i would be using the XAMPP For Windows for my Tutorials here.
Now, open your XAMPP Control panel and then connect your server by clicking on “Start” buttons infront of Apache and MySQL. after your button starts the server whicch would show some querries underneath a open interface, your success returns would show the Apache and MySQL in green color. Now, click on Admin just in front of Stop button located after the MySQL. This would take you to your Browser and open a new window with the PHPMyAdmin interface. You’ll notice some premade databases right there locaed at the left side of the panel. Click New button located just above the Databases at the left pane and this would open a new interface where you can type in your database name. Click create button and the querry would show you a green success and then by that same left pane, your database would be located there. Assuming you created a Database called Netgills Tuts Database, you would find it located right there. Part 2: (Creating the DB User and Password) Now, click on this database and then it would show a new blank screen wtih navigation options above the blank interface. Click on Prviledge and then it shows you an interface to add User and Password. Fill in the form and then click on the priviledges you would want and then click “Go” button which creates your Database user for you. Now, you must have gotten a better glimpse about how these works and how to go about it. You can read on my next article on How to Import / Export database tables from PHPMyAdmin panel.
