Due to allegations that drivers often play games while their car moves, Tesla will henceforth stop this capability on its electric vehicles.

Tesla cars often come with the built-in display while in motion because the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is up against it.

According to the report, the changes will be brought in via a software update. NHTSA is also said to include the evaluation of over half a million Tesla cars.

Independent tests were made on moving Tesla cars earlier this month with investigators noting the ability to play a number of Tesla Arcade games via the Passenger Play feature.

Even at that, there was a warning that showed that only passengers are allowed to play while the car moves while there is a button that requires you to actually confirm that you’re a passenger before allowing you to play the game.

However, Safety advocate deems the Passenger Play as being “dangerous”

The reason is that there isn’t an actual way for the car to really know whether the person confirming to be a passenger in order to play a game is actually a passenger.

There’s “no argument that can be made that [the feature] isn’t dangerous,” the executive director of the Center for Auto Safety said, according to The New York Times.

However, Tesla made the announcement that it would change the feature via a software update.

And according to NHTSA via an emailed statement. “The Vehicle Safety Act prohibits manufacturers from selling vehicles with defects posing unreasonable risks to safety, including technologies that distract drivers from driving safely,” the agency said in its statement.

But this isn’t the first time that Tesla will be having an issue with NHTSA. Previously, the regulatory body opened an investigation on Tesla’s autopilot feature after the cars repeatedly crashed into parked emergency vehicles.

The body also publicly demanded Tesla to rollout its Full Self Driving Beta that used a “safety score” to determine who got it and initially came with an NDA.
