As time pass by, the move for renewable energy gets bigger, and American EV automaker, Tesla continues to dominate the industry but what is even more interesting is the fact that China remains one of the highest consumers of EVs in the world. This is also clear when considering the number of EVs purchased in the far-east country just this past month of August alone.
According to a new report, China accounts for 50% of all the 506,000 EV units sales that were made globally within the month of August. This figure has been disputed by TheElec which stated the number of sales could be very well above 510,000 units including the nations whose data was unavailable.
Compared to the month of August in the year 2020, the new sales number doubles the previous number of 260,000 units. More than half of those sales were made in China followed by Germany with a total number of 52,000 units of EVs while the US market saw about 44,000 units being sold.
Other countries include France which had about 17,000 units and then Norway with 14,000 units and South Korea’s EV unit sales was around 9,600 which according to analysis marked a sizeable 172& growth YoY.
Tesla Model Y and Hyundai Ioniq 5 were among the top and popular EVs being sold in August. The introduction of more EV trucks on the market will further strengthen sales across the board especially from well-established brands such as Ford and Tesla.
Tesla being the dominant name on the EV market has its Model 3 being one of the most popular selling about 282,000 units across the globe just in August while the Chinese Wuling Hongguang Mini EV was the second most popular EV, selling about 245,000 units, and then the Tesla Moel y with 180,000 units being sold.
Slowly but surely, more people are beginning to adopt the EV lifestyle even though there is still an ongoing debate as to whether EVs are really going to save the planet. Also, there is the case of EVs being more expensive to maintain compared to gas-powered vehicles due to the fact that they’re still not popular and not well established compared to gas-powered cars.
