It’s official! You’ve got just January 2020 to update from the good old Windows 7 because Microsoft had somehow find a way to force you into upgrading by bringing up an annoying “Upgrade now” screen every now and then to intrude your workspace.
And aside that, Microsoft will no longer support the old Windows 7 meaning your machine will become vulnerable to serious security threats like viruses and malware which no one obviously wants right.
So it’s time to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 but luckily there is a way you can have a smooth transition to the newest OS and also getting it for free assuming you’re not up for the $139 price tag Microsoft had slapped on the Windows 10 on it’s website.
Yeah you might wonder if I know what I’m talking about, after all, the free upgrade offer was over since 2016 but really that same update still works somehow.
Even though the free upgrade tool which was initially offered to Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 users back in 2015 and scheduled to run through to 2016 was thought by some to have expired somehow but Edd Bott from ZDNet reported that the free upgrade tool was still functional. YIKES!
Even as of last month, November 2019, the reported tool still works and that was also confirmed by CNET after their correspondent updated a 2014 Dell OptiPlex 9020 from Windows 7 Pro to Windows 10 Pro.
Here’s how to get Windows 10 for free, if you’re currently running a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Home or Pro:
1. Go to the Download Windows 10 website.
2. Under the Create Windows 10 installation media, click Download tool now and Run.
3. Now, select Upgrade this PC now, assuming this is the only PC you’re upgrading. (If you’re upgrading a different machine, choose Create installation media for another PC, and save the installation files.)
4. Follow the prompts.
5. When the upgrade is complete, go to Settings Update & Security > Activation, and you should see a digital license for Windows 10.
As you can see it’s faster than you’d expect the need for some high-technical operators to fix for you. Meanwhile its worth noting that the kind of older Windows OS you run on your machine is the version you can get for the Windows 10 upgrade. For example, let’s say you currently have a Windows 7 or 8 Home license, you can only upgrade to Windows 10 Home and if you use Windows 7 or 8 Pro, thenupgrade can be a Windows 10 Pro.
