It was as thought he LCD panel is hopeless with the rapidly advanced in-display fingerprint sensor which never made it to LCD displays compared to the much expensive LED screens on high-end flagship devices. But well, this might just be changing and the technology might just be taking a bigger leap to the future especially now being incorporated into LCD displays.
What’s even more interesting is the fact that a China-based company by the name Tianma Microelectronicis has now developed a multi-point in-display fingerprint recognition technology which can be used to unlock a smartphone by touching many places on the device’s screen.
Company made it known it created this in-house technology where the image processing component of this new in-display sensing is built right within TFT display allowing the multi-touch functionalities as well as fingerprint sensing.
Further, Tianma claims to have used optical path design for this in-display technology which reduces the thickness of the module by about 50 percent compared to other types of optical fingerprint solutions.
The solution being for LCD displays is a good news which hadn’t gotten this far considering it’s thickness compared to LED displays which are usually ultra-thin and would allow light to pass through it thereby making room for under-display sensors which can take pictures of fingerprints and store them for security purposes.
TCL owned China tar Optoelectronics Technology Co., LTD (CSOT) was able to recently come up with such technology as well whereby LCD screens would allow in-display fingerprint which it called the Full-screen Single-point In-display fingerprint technology.
With the new technology in place, the CSOT said this would cover about 92% area of the screen which will allow user to basically touch anywhere on the screen to get their device unlocked rather than the current method which you have to set your hand to a partcular location usually the lower area of the screen.
The availability of the CSOT display isn’t yet available commercially especially LCD displays with under-display sensors but this could go into mass production pretty soon as the Tianma and CSOT are already planning to make this a full blown technology pretty soon.
