Huawei continues to push 5G as it partners with 18 automakers for connected cars

Huawei is one of the biggest in the world as far as the 5G telecommunication is concerned and the company is reportedly working with 18 car makers to bring 5G connected cars to the Chinese market. The company had claimed that its MH5000 is the world’s first 5G module for vehicles.

The module was developed by the company’s chip making division, HiSilicon which is known for making the Kirin chipsets in both Huawei and Honor smartphones. The MH5000 are already commercially available on Bajoun RC-6 which is a car built by SAIC-GM-Wuling Automobile. The company is a joint venture between General Motors, LiuZhou Wuling Automobile Industry Co. and SAIC

Now, the Chinese telecom giant signs a total of 18 Chinese carmakers to bring more 5G smart-connected vehicles to the domestic market. Here’s the complete list of the partners.

Recently, it was revealed Huawei to have partnered with STMicroelectronics in order to design and manufacture chips for smart automotive and mobile devices. If the partnering goes well, other global car makers such as Tesla and BMW could become customers of Huawei as they’v been customers of STMicro for many years.
