There is a new concept car out there which is thought to be an eco-friendly machine that will help transport humanity in the near future. Of course not masses considering how minimal the design is and it’s passenger space. But the latest Volkswagen ID Buggy is a really nice try to the new world we all envision with lesser emission.
The design of the Volkswagen ID Buggy is based on what Meyers Manx did back in the 60s whose underpinnings are the MEB platform. The design of the car makes it quite modular because it allows Volkswagen to add or remove different size Electric Vehicle right on top of the same base by just swapping out batteries based on the size of the proposed car they’re planning to build. Unlike others, the Buggy doesn’t have doors or trunk or even roof (although car can be covered in the case of unfavorable weather like rainfall) or even a back seat.
It’s very basic and exciting to a large extent considering it’s state of being a street legal minimalist vehicle. The interior is just two seats and the space at the back is where you’d hide your beach cooler or towel. Also, forget about Infotainment system because it doesn’t have one either or even a climate control system.
While you might be so used to such a vehicle, you would quickly realise you’re driving a recreational EV. At least, Volkswagen remembered to add speedometer as well as the car battery status…who doesn’t need that. But sincerely, you might consider one yourself if ever produced because such minimalist cars have big plus when you consider the hurdles of learning the new systems of new vehicles that are being released every year.
While you surely won’t get one on the market for purchase, it’s quite sure that Volkswagen will be producing something similar to this because it made an announcement that it will sell platforms for which third-party companies can place bodies upon. Essentially, another company could buy a frame, complete with battery and electric powertrain, and then stick any body on top of that. It opens up a world of possibilities.
While you might want something like this, be rest assured you could get one yourself from Volkswagen which is similar to the Buggy in a matter of years. Volkswagen says the concept vehicle is based on the platform used by the upcoming ID 3 vehicle. It has a 62kWh battery, 155 miles of range, has 201 horsepower and can do zero to 60 in 7.2 seconds.
Being a concept car, I wouldn’t expect too much from it’s suspension or speed as this car could only go 38 Kilometers per hour while it’s steering wheel feels light and it’s suspension was quite rougher. But if anything like comes out in the future, you could get one for yourself to hang around on the beach which is fun to do. Not lousy and no combustion anywhere.
While it’s certain Electric Vehicles will replace combustion engine vehicles, how soon that would happen isn’t yet known as the substitution is definitely going to take a while considering how far vehicles have come. But knowing that your future car won’t disturb natural peace by emitting dangerous fumes all around the city gives you a peace of mind.
