Just in a matter of time, two of the biggest consoles will be out and then kaboom, the console war will restart again or maybe it never ends but let’s just assume another generation of it is coming on pretty soon and with that, both players in the business are already strategizing on how to win more costumers to their sides and make more sales which is essential to the growth and popularity of their platforms.
Sony being one from the far east had announced earlier that an event will hold next week where it will showcase the future of gaming on its PlayStation 5 console.
In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, the company’s CEO Jim Ryan suggested that “one way to keep the PS4 users engaged would be to make upcoming PS5 games playable on the older mac une just like Microsoft is proposing with its Xbox Series X games being playable on Xbox One.”
We have always said that we believe in generations. We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include.SIE CEO, Jim Ryan
Also tthe CEO further added to his words by taking aims at the Xbox plan to have titles and accessories which works across generations by saying “We believe that when you go to all the trouble of creating a next-gen console, that it should include features and benefits that the previous generation does not include. And that, in our view, people should make games that can make the most of these features. We do believe in generations, and whether it’s the DualSense controller, whether it’s the 3D audio, whether it’s the multiple ways that the SSD can be used… we are thinking that it is time to give the PlayStation community something new, something different, that can really only be enjoyed on PS5.”
The team dedicated to Xbox heard the suggestion about games on their platform might not take advantage of new-gen features to provide a new experience and Xbox Games Marketing exec Aaron Greenberg tweeted “Generations of games that play on latest HW taking advantage of next-gen innovation offering more choice, value and variety than any console launch ever. All our Studios titles launch into Game Pass & you get those next-gen game upgrades for free.” That follows Phil Spencer’s December blog post that said: “Building on our compatibility promise, with Xbox Series X we’re also investing in consumer-friendly pathways to game ownership across generations. Leading the way with our first-party titles including Halo Infinite in 2020, we’re committed to ensuring that games from Xbox Game Studios support cross-generation entitlements and that your Achievements and game saves are shared across devices.”
While showcasing its generations of compatible titles and Smart Delivery set-up which downloads the right version for hardware unlike Sony’s still-murky plans for compatibility is especially timely.
While the battle line isn’t yet fully drawn, we all know that something of such is coming pretty soon whereby both titans will want a piece of the cake and bring on-board more customers to their platforms.
Another interesting thing that will even make the game console war real will be the pricing considering how much feature-rich these devices will be, it will be nice to guess how much they would cost and that alone will be a win or lose factor.
Take the PlayStation 5 as an example which is hoping to push the usage of DualSense controller as a major differentiating factor as well as the hope that it going to be more relevant to gameplay than the DualShock 4 touchpad has been or do we mention the Xbox can’t really talk there — many of those Kinects that shipped with every Xbox One launch console never saw much use either.
But the point here is that these consoles are going to be great performers and offer really high-tech experience but whichever will win could at some point be dependent on customers and maybe user’s loyalty… Let’s keep it like that.
