The popular Chinese mobile phone maker Xiaomi is coming up on it’s first major appearance at the Mobile World Congress this year. The company is actually aiming yo unveil its Mi5 which happens to be its flagship smartphone which has been referred to as a “Global Launch Event.”
It could look like Xiaomi is trying to expand its restriction beyond its Asian territory given its name.
Few years ago when the company started coming up while it sold better devices at very small prices which helped it to get a larger customers around its demographics. Hype around the company peaked in late 2014, when it was valued at a staggering $46 billion.
In the midst of an overall slowdown in China, Xiaomi has recently missed sales targets in China and failed to probe the viability of it’s service-based business model , casting doubts over the further growth of the company and retaining it’s large customers.
Although there had always been problems launching mobile phones abroad and telecoms giant Huawei in particular has proven a major threat to Xiaomi in China using scale to out muscle Xiaomi at the high end and introducing its similarly nimble, inexpensive Honor brand at the low.
The pressure is on, then, for Xiaomi’s biggest event of 2016. The presentation itself begins at 3AM ET / 9AM CET, 55 minutes after the company starts broadcasting its live stream.
