Just 2 days ago, Microsoft unveiled at the Microsoft Event two new devices; the Surface Neo which has a dual folding screen and then the Surface Duo which also is a smaller device with a folding screen but specifically running the Android Operating system out of the box.
Though the device appears somehow at least from my point of view, it’s definitely going to be a nice device if it gets it’s chance in the overcrowded smartphone market.
Back in the days of the Lumia which failed miserably probably due to the use of the Windows Mobile OS which users apparently didn’t find that interesting enough while Android and the iPhone were booming which led to the untimely death of the Lumia product line in the smartphone market.
The new diversion to entering into the Android market not just with a normal form factor smartphone but this time with a folding phone might give Microsoft a chance because the folding phone niche is pretty new with Samsung being the only major domino with the Galaxy Fold which failed initially while the likes of Royole FlexiPai aren’t mainstream, Huawei’s Mate X will launch in China in few days while LG too is trying to come onboard. The niche is definitely new and it’s potential is what Microsoft is trying to explore.

Now as for the Microsoft Surface Duo, it looked very similar to the larger Surface Neo just that it’s shrunk down to 5.6-inch display placed side by side and cojoined using an hinge.

This device is going to be a real multitasking tool considering how you can split the screens into two and run multiple tasks on each. Now because Android allows 2 apps to simultaneously run on each screens, two screens equals four applications and thanks to the high-end Snapdragon 855 processor which makes the whole device run fast and smooth.
Even though no one really had enough time with the device, it’s readiness won’t be until the year 2020 so you might want to save up for this because Microsoft is going to definitely charge premium for this fancy little device.
Although speculations has this device might ship wit the Android 10, that is very uncertain considering the time the device might be readily available to be shipped out to stores.

But anyways, it’s like in the next 5 years, Folding phones will erode the smartphone market while normal slate form-factor smartphones will be retired; So long dear smartphone. With the likes of Samsung, Huawei, LG and maybe Apple will be next and then Xiaomi, Oppo, Vivo, Asus and so on and so forth. The new niche too will be saturated in time thanks to the ever hungry customer base that never gets fed up.
Do you think the new Surface Duo will make it big in the smartphone market or would just be another flop? Let us know in the comment section below.
