There was an announcement published earlier this week by Microsoft as the company stated its plans to allow Xbox gamers to play against PS4 and PC players. Microsoft is opening up its platform for developers so as to have the choice of supporting the cross-network play but this will require supports from Sony on its PlayStation networks. Anyway, Sony responded to the invitation stating the idea to be an open one.
Sony is willing to talk to developers
“PlayStation has been supporting cross-platform play between PC on several software titles starting with Final Fantasy 11 on PS2 and PC back in 2002,”
“We would be happy to have the conversation with any publishers or developers who are interested in cross platform play.” notes a statement from Sony to GameSpot.

This response doesn’t mean the company is trying to work in hand with Microsoft and developers to enable support for Xbox One against PS4 but its clearly stated they needed to listen yo the responses from developers first.
Either way, Sony could have chosen to stay silent so a response is encouraging. The dream of Xbox gamers playing against PS4 players might finally become a reality.
Although the time is quiet early to say how many developers are preferring the cross network play but as its known, Rocket League will be one of the first titles to support the new cross network play. Sony notes it has been supporting cross-platform play between the PlayStation and PC for more than 10 years, but any move to link the Xbox and PlayStation would be a first for both Sony and Microsoft.
