Officially, Sony had revealed new details about the next-gen gaming console which we expected to be called the PlayStation 5. The information about the product was shared as part of the company’s corporate strategy presentation.

The good news about the gaming console is that it will be backwards-compatible and users will be able to still play their previous PlayStation 4 games on it and it’s also going to be compatible with the PlayStation VR and a physical compact game disc will be supported. While still being a massive upgrade from the current PS4 game console, Sony had affirmed the PS4 will remain the engine of engagement of profitability for at least the next 3 years while the PlayStation 5 could probably be launched by the year 2020.

New GPU and CPU

Concerning the hardware of the PS5 game console, Sony said it will be powered by both a new GPU and CPU. Also included as part of the game engine is a third-generation AMD Ryzen CPU with eight cores and a custom AMD Radeon Navi GPU.

8K Graphics will be supported and the device will also support ray tracing. Storage of the PS5 will be taken care of by a massive SSD unlike the current PS4 that uses hard drives. All these hardware contributes to the PlayStation 5 being 10-times faster than a PlayStation 4 Pro at loading complex scenes.

No pricing or launch date information was shared by Sony just yet but speculations has it the game console could be launched next year 2020. But whatever it is, we can’t wait to see how this nice device will change the video gaming industry altogether.
