None of the currently available Windows 10 Mobile Lumias striking your fancy? Considering the options out there, we don’t entirely blame you, but the good news is that we’ve been looking forward to some new hardware not too far over the horizon, at least if the rumors are to be believed. Maybe most interesting on that list is the Lumia 650: long-rumored, possibly once canceled, but now back in the running again. Microsoft has still yet to formally confirm its plans for the smartphone, but today we got maybe the closest we’ll get to an official announcement – at least prior to a capital-l launch – as Microsoft Chief Marketing Officer Chris Capossela comments on when the 650 might be coming.

Earlier this week we checked out some some very attractive renders purporting to show off the Lumia 650’s design, so it’s no surprise that a lot of Microsoft fans have been curious to learn just when we could hope to see this guy launch.

On today’s edition of the Windows Weekly podcast, co-host Mary Jo Foley asked Capossela a direct question about when the Lumia 650 would be released. Rather than declining to comment about unofficial hardware, Capossela instead replied that the company had yet to set a release date.

We know, that’s not a very firm confirmation of Microsoft’s intention to launch the Lumia 650, and Capossela’s response could easily be read in the context of politely rejecting the question. That said, it just might offer the sort of acknowledgment we’ve been looking for – and until we hear otherwise, we’re willing to have a little faith.

The latest rumors suggest that Microsoft may be planning to launch the Lumia 650 in late February, with sales following a month or two later.
