Huawei was the scape-goat that had to bear most of the problems of China-US tradewar last year and that led to the company being banned from partnering up with American companies which of course being Google because that’s almost the only company they work with mostly.

The ban saw Huawei getting thrown under the bus by the US Government over allegations of back-door technology which could lead to the Chinese government spying on the US officials.

Now comes in the biggest knock-down, the Mate 30 Pro would have definitely been everyone’s favorite when it was released last year September but it’s a smartphone most people don’t want to pay their top dollar for because it has no Google Play Service which a quarter if not half of the global population depends upon.

While there are workarounds to getting the Play Service to work on the device, it’s officially not pre-installed from the factory. But that’s bno longer the news unless you live in Mars. But Huawei has officially announced the Mate 30 Pro will be coming to the UK for a retail price of £899 (~$1,162). (NG₦ 422,387 / SAR 17,267 ) without Google Play Service….HMMMPH…pretty bad!

Since this is an official Launch, Huawei has already provided a link whereby users can pre-register just in case they’re interested in the device. The pre-registration gets you a pair of the Huawei FreeBuds 3 and the Huawei Watch GT2 while the Stocks last.

The marketed Mate 30 Pro is only going to be available in Space Silver, so if you were hoping to grab a funky Cosmic Purple or Emerald Green colorway you might have to head elsewhere maybe AliExpress or GearBest, BangGood or any other trustworthy Chinese e-Retailer. This is also the 4G model, not the 5G variant.

Where the Huawei Mate 30 Pro is more depressing despite it’s great piece of hardware quality is the absence of the Google Play Store where you get to download all those fancy applications you want. Even though Huawei marketed it’s own App Gallery, it’s nowhere near the Google Play Store in terms of the number of applications and developers’ support.

In a savvy move, Carphone Warehouse says it will provide a “dedicated VIP support team” on hand for Mate 30 Pro buyers to guide them through using a phone without GMS which supports the Play Service, Google Search, Google Mail, Google Assistant and a host lot of Google stuffs.

But Huawei made it known that if the ban is over-ruled, all it has to do is send the updated (Google’s own Android) to the Huawei Mate 30 Series devices and that’s it. One thing that’s so annoying is how great the Huawei Mate 30 Pro is. The design aesthetics is so great and features a new wrap-around display which it ousts the volume rocker because of the large portion of the sides of the device it covered.

While all that is going on, Huawei prepares the launching of its newer flagship, the P40 Series which rumors has it’s an even powerful smartphone with tons of features. The design too and so much more but should that halt your decision about purchasing the Mate 30 Pro? No because I obviously believe the Mate 30 Pro is a device whose technology still won’t go out of fashion in the next couple of years. Even the design is awesome. Great cameras, powerful battery and super-bright OLED display and everything else a premium flagship is supposed to have except the software part.
