Harman Kardon is not new in the headphone business even though the company had gone under the radar in the last couple of years but it’s like the company is finally back with three interesting models under the “Fly” sub-branding.

These sets of true wireless earbuds (TWS) includes a $200 USD full-size noise-cancelling model which it calls the Fly ANC, then a standard wireless earbuds which it calls Fly BT which is about $100 USD and then the Fly TWS which costs $150 USD which is expected to be released by May. The Fly TWS is our main talking point as it offers really interesting audio quality that one would expect from a premium-level earbuds.

But as for the size of the earbuds, they are slightly big and sticks out right from the ear just as we have seen on the Galaxy Buds plus which has the same price tag of $150 USD. Speaking of audio quality, the Harman Kardon offers really great audio output with its strength lying with the bass which gets punched up a bit.

The Harmon Kardon Fly TWS has a battery that lasts for about 6 hours while the casing gets about 14 hours on a single charge unlike the 11 hours on the Galaxy Buds Plus. Other aspect where the Galaxy Buds plus excels over the Fly TWS is the fact that the former can charge wirelessly wherefore the latter only charges with a quick-charge feature that gets hours of power to be used for your listening pleasure. Even the Fly TWS gets 1 hour of usage after just 10 minutes of charge.

They’re IPX5 water-resistant, which means they can take a sustained spray of water. I was able to run with them, but, like I said, they may be a touch big for some people’s ears. 

You should note that Samsung owns Harman, and brands like JBL and AKG, which are under the Harman umbrella. So this is kind of like Apple competing against Beats, which it owns. That said, the TWS Fly do seem quite different from the Galaxy Buds Plus, although their features are pretty similar.  

The device also offer a tight seal which boost sound quality as well enhance its noise isolation though there is no ANC technology built with this device but the device’s deign makes it feel so.

As with the Buds Plus you get an ambient mode that lets sound leak in from the world around you and if you activate the TalkThru mode, you can hear your voice inside the buds when making voice calls. I didn’t see a way to adjust the level of TalkThru, but that’s a nice feature and these do work well as a headset for making calls. For those who like to tweak their sound, there are some preset EQ settings in the app and you can also create your own custom EQ. 

Other interesting feature of the Fly TWS earbuds is that it offer a one-button access to Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa or whatever AI Assistant your device come loaded with. Controlling audio such as pausing, skip and previous can be done using responsive tapping control which is really comfortable to do.

The Harman Fly TWS offer a clear audio quality with better sparkle and you can switch between audio profiles to suit your listening pleasure. Also the quality of the audio being played from your device also matters alot. Compared to a Sennheiser Momentum TWS 2 earbuds, the Harman is half it’s price and performs within the premium range of the Sennheiser’s earbuds.

And if you want one of the device, you’ll have to wait until May which is when we’ll further get to learn more about the true capability of the earbuds. As for the sturdiness of the device as well as build quality, it excels with flying colors.
