Soon enough, the next gen Apple Watch Series 6 as it might be called will come packed up with new features which should beat the older Watch 5 far better based on what we’re expecting. The device is also probably going to be released alongside the upcoming Apple flagship iPhone 12 series which are still definitely months away from now but the device is expected to sport some new features and more about health and lifestyle device aside serving the beauty and fashion purpose which the beautiful smartwatch is expected to fulfill.
With that said, there have been numerous leaks and patents filed by Apple concerning the Watch 6 which might give better clue about what to expect by the time the device is being released officially later on this year meanwhile here are few things which might change, be added or should be expected of the upcoming Apple Watch 6 with it’s accompanying WatchOS 7.
Design changes to the Watch 6
What would be an obvious differentiation between the Watch 5 and 6 would obviously be the design aesthetics which hasn’t been much different since the initial release of the Watch Series except for some tweaks and size differences which is what makes the device a little different from one another at least from the outside.
But as for the inside of the device, there would always be a tweaked up software upgrade which would give a better user experience and make the Watch more interesting and of course make it a valuable device which would further serve it’s purpose in such respect.

There have been rumors about the Apple Watch 6 sporting a rounded face meanwhile this design specs is more prominent in the Android Wear arena unlike Watch which maintained it’s square shape. But what seems to be a heads-up would be a patent filed by Apple which show a round display.
But since this is merely a patent, chances are that might never make it to the actual device by the time it’s finally released later on. And in fact the reality is that even if Apple decides to go with rounded design, that probably would be on the Apple Watch Series 7 since that hardware change would obviously require a software tweak to match the aesthetics.
There would be new additional watch faces
Obviously that’s going to happen as well even though the current Apple Watch 5 already sports numerous watch faces which ranges from weather-oriented layouts to just animated characters, there is possibility that there would be even far more watch faces added on to the array of existing watch faces.
Apple is also tipped to allow users to share watch faces with one another according to a report from 9to5Mac which made it known that each of the watch face configuration will be shared as a unique file via AirDrop. The report also cites that based on an iOS 14 code leak as the source of such information.
There is also the probability of being able to use shared albums from the photos app to create a customized watch face which cycles through the photos in that album and that would be a great way of placing your loved ones on the displays of your smartwatch. There is also an additional option whereby you can choose a country’s flag as your watch face to show your loyalty and allegiance to your country.
There will be a fitness application
The next interesting addition to the Apple Watch Series 6 and it’s accompanying WatchOS 7 would be the inclusion of a fitness dedicated application which according to MacRumors would be a standalone fitness application compared to the existing Activity app which basically tracks your progress. The Watch 6 fitness application would be more tuned out for fitness and workout routines as well as having support for numerous activities which includes cycling, rowing, strength training, dance and yoga.
Meanwhile there are numerous third-party fitness applications right in the Apple Store which can do just that task . But the new fitness application according to reports will not be limited to the Watch 6 as it would be available as well on Apple TV as well as iPhones and might be freely available for anyone who wants it just that it might have some in-app purchases for further access to more features and so forth.
Sleep tracker might also be included
The next interesting feature we could see on the Watch 6 is the sleep tracker and of course, Apple did acquired a sleep sensor company called Beddit back in 2017 which is tracker that can be placed underneath a mattress and the rumor has it Apple could just create a “Sleep app” which was accidentally spotted in a screenshot of Apple’s preinstalled Alarm app in the App Store.
The image was spotted by a reader of MacRumors back in October, and has since been removed. An April 30 leak on Twitter seems to corroborate this rumor. Only third-party developers makes sleep tracking available on Apple watch which takes a huge toll on the battery life of the device in question. But come to think of it, even a native software that would track your sleep behavior throughout the entire night would likely require a lot of battery to burn out or maybe Apple could fine a way to make it work with the WatchOS 7 update.
Pulse oximeter to measure blood oxygen levels
This one had been in the news for quite a while as Apple is said to be working on allowing you monitor your blood oxygen levels which is definitely going to be a big addition to the health features of the Apple Watch 6 if you think about it. The usage of blood oxygen levels measurement have been recommended by doctors in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic which would in fact be a big advantage for Apple.
Meanwhile one aspect where the current Apple Watch 5 excels is with the Heart rate monitor which alerts you of abnormalities such as irregular heart rhythm indicative of atrial fibrillation or AFib. The addition of an SPO2 would be a great monitor that would make the Watch 6 a great health device which can be used by anyone.
Meanwhile, Apple would require to develop a more powerful sensor which would be able to detect blood oxygen level while still being able to maintain the heart rate monitoring tasks. Its worth noting that the Apple Watch already tracks VO2 max (or maximum oxygen consumption) inside the Activity app using the GPS and heart rate sensor during exercise, however, so it’s possible it would only require a software update.Â
Even Blood pressure checker
In a recent patent of Apple discovered by the media company Apple Insider suggests the company may also add blood pressure monitoring to future Apple Watch models. The patent went on to reveal the new sensor being combined with software which would be able to measure blood pressure without needing the arm cuff used in hospitals.
The Apple WatchOS update would be kid friendly Â
Based on the leak of the iOS 14 Code, it further gave a more insight into what the company is up to when the next versions of the compnany’s operating systems are released. Now the kid friendly feature would work as a separate module which would stay connected to those whose kids are using iPhones which would give parents the final say on the type of content their kids can access.
With a feature called SchoolTime in WatchOS 7, parents could even determine what apps can be used at what times to limit distractions in the classroom. With that, it would put parents at the control of the daily usage of their kid’s smartphones.
Mental health tracking system
Mental issues such as Panic attack will be easily tracked on the Watch series 6 based on leaks and assumptions. Aside that, other important mental issues can be monitored as they were referenced as “Mental Health Abnormalities Detection”.
But whatever it is Apple is working on, we’ll definitely keep you guys updated with the latest stories as we get it. Meanwhile tell in the comment section what you’d love to see in the next Apple Watch Series 6 as features.
