By the year 2021, Apple is reported to start selling Mac computers powered by its own processor based on the design architectures currently being used on its iPhones and iPads devices according to a new report from Bloomberg.
The tech giant is said to have started working on three Mac processors based on the A14 Bionic processor in it’s next iPhone which suggests the company’s plan to switch away from Intel’s processors. The relationship with Intel started as far back as 2006 and since then, all Apple’s Mac computers have been powered by the Intel processor.
Intel do not only make processors for the Mac computers but also make the modem chipset found in its iPhones. The company had always use outsider suppliers for its modem chips which a crucial component in its mobile devices for wireless data networks.
It’s no news that Apple actually bought a majority of Intel’s modem business last year July for a worth of $1 billion as well as settling it’s long legal battle with Qualcomm over license practices.

Apple’s Mac computers had been successful since they started out with the business generating $7.16 billion in revenue in the last reported quarter while Intel’s PC unit that includes modem chip sales recorded $10 billion in sales last year.
The report about Apple planning to switch over to using its own chipset in its computers dates as far back as 2018 and it was thought that the company will start the switch this year 2020.
