Huawei Mate 30 is the smallest of the Mate 30 Series released last September but it’s a top-tier smartphone with high-level specifications that makes it an interesting device worth every penny just that there is a little disappointment with the absence of the Google Play service which is very crucial in the lives of every Android smartphone users. While Huawei aims to oust its dependencies on the American search giant by creating it’s own set of software services, it’s ecosystem is nowhere near that of the Google Play service with billions of users worldwide.

The controversial ban placed on the company last year led to Huawei losing it’s Android license as well as others. Well, the Huawei Mate 30 doesn’t officially launch with a proper Android OS which is supported constantly by Google for updated security patches.

In terms of beautiful design, the Mate 30 isn’t anywhere near the Mate 30 Pro series which has a mighty super-curved display which wraps 90% around the device’s side and ultimately ousting the volume rocker and displacing the power button to the back of the device.

The Mate 30 has a small notch though. The type found on the Honor 8X or LG G8 ThinQ unlike it’s more premium counterpart with a much wider notch to house it’s 3D face ID hardware and selfie camera.

Huawei always excel with cameras and the Mate 30 Pro did just that with it;s multi camera setup. The device features a 40 MP, f/1.8, 27mm (wide), 1/1.54″, PDAF, Laser AF and then a smaller 8 MP, f/2.4, 80mm (telephoto), 1/4″, PDAF, Laser AF, OIS, 3x optical zoom and finally a 16 MP, f/2.2, 17mm (ultrawide) camera all which produces high quality pictures in low light as well afterall, Huawei always brag about how great it’s cameras process low-light pictures.

The cameras are able to record 2160p@30/60fps, 1080p@30/60/120fps, 720p@960fps, gyro-EIS and features the Leica optics, dual-LED dual-tone flash, panorama, HDR. The front facing camera includes a 24 MP, f/2.0, 26mm (wide), 1/2.8″, 0.9µm and 3D TOF camera which is capable of 1080p@30fps videos.

All that aside, the awesome 6.62-Inches OLED display offers amazing display which is obviously great and immersive for whatever is thrown at it. The 6GB or 8GB RAM coupled with it’s 128GB gives the device all the power it needs to withstand whatever task thrown at it but memory can extended using Huawei’s own expensive Nano SD card which isn’t very common in the market just in case you want a much larger space.

But where is Google Play services which is like the life of Android Operating systems. AT least most Android users have a Google account synced with their GMail, YouTube and so forth. The fact that you won’t be able to use this makes the device deficient of the essentials it needs.

The Mate 30 isn’t very expensive and is priced at the region of $500 to $700 but it’s not as popular among elite smartphone users just like the Mate 30 Pro or the 5G model.
