The newest release of the Samsung’s Find My Mobile application now come with an interesting update which is basically its support for offline usage so even if you’ve turned off your data before losing your device, you can easily locate it using the application.
The new release was first sported on by the XDA Developer’s reporter Max Weinbach narrating the release to be tied to the version 7.2.05.44 which the South Korean tech giant started rolling out over few days which once installed it gives you a notification prompt that asks you to enable the feature as the screenshot below.
A click on the notification prompt takes you to another settings screen where you get to add up additional settings to help make your phone offline finding much more easier.
In order to activate the settings in its entirety, you need to first turn on the the toggle as well as encrypting your location. One of the awesome benefit of the update is that you won’t only be able to find your phone even when you it doesn’t have a network connection but you can as well use your phone to help locate other Galaxy phones.
Devices that will have support for this includes all Galaxy smartphones including the Galaxy Watches and even the TWS earbuds in as much as the device has the “encrypt offline location” settings.
One thing we’re not entirely sure of is what the location encryption does. But suggestions points to allowing data to be much more secured in some undefined, abstract and apparently optional ways possible but security is also paramount to locating a missing phone which Samsung took note of.
Another sad thing though is that the feature might not be worldwide just yet as only the US and South Korea might be the two countries to get the feature and it’s said to work well based on experimentation. The offline mode now brings the Find my Mobile app closer to the Apple‘s Offline Finding feature of the Find my iPhone which was released alongside the iOS 13.
So if you’re ever interested in getting this update which is already being rolled out, you can head over to the Samsung’s app store to get it or just the APK Mirror link below to download it on your device.
