Rumors: Honor V40 will not feature Kirin 9000 SoC

Base models will feature a different chipset from the high-end model

Even though Huawei sold the Honor brand just this past week, its current devices are still likely being designed by Huawei and that is what prompted the question as to whether the next-gen Honor V40 smartphone will feature the new and powerful Kirin 9000 chipset, the same chipset powering the newly announced Mate 40 series.

Meanwhile new information that surfaced through the internet showed that the V40 series (V40 Pro and V40 Pro+) will use a different chipset and it will be the Dimensity 1000+ for the Honor 40 Pro while the high-end model, Honor 40 Pro+ will have the Kirin 9000 chipset.

In that case, one can assume that Huawei will use two different chipset in the devices depending on the model (Honor V40 and V40 Pro = Dimensity 1000+ while Honor V40 Pro Plus = Kirin 9000) The Kirin 9000 is much more powerful and worked pretty well with the new Huawei Mate 40 series and including it on the mid-range Honor brand might look generous or maybe the device is already being stepped up to becoming more efficient.

Honor V40 series unlikely to feature Kirin 9000

There is also a news about MediaTek working on a 6nm chipset with a powerful performance in the range of Snapdragon 865. The chipset is said to have the model number MT6893 and the Taiwan-based company is expected to make the announcement in a matter of days.

My other theory is that due to Huawei’s ban from working with TSMC, the company was rumored to have stockpiled a number of Kirin chipset but you know, this is a limited number considering the fact that its no longer being manufactured and majority of it has already gone to the Mate 40 series. This could be the reason why Huawei is diversifying the source of the device’s chipset.

But aside that, rumors of the Honor V40 which is being rumored to be released later in December is expected to have a 6.72-inch FHD+ curved display with120Hz refresh rate. And who knows, this might be an OLED display and likely the first in the Honor line.

The other high-end model, V40 Pro and 40 Pro+ are said to have the Sony IMX700 RYYB as well as offering support for ultra fast charging at 66W or 40W wireless charging with stereo speakers, 5G and Glass build. As for the pricing, nothing is yet known

The Honor V40 duo is expected to come with 6.72-inch FHD+ curved displays that offer a 120Hz refresh rate. The V40 Pro and V40 Pro+ may borrow the Sony IMX700 RYYB from the Honor 30 Pro+ handset that went official earlier this year. It is unclear whether these phones have triple or quad cameras. If the V40 Pro Plus also comes with Dimensity 1000+, it is likely to be priced around CN¥2,500 Yuan (~$380).
