The Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) and how it will be a game changer

Interestign specifications and features that makes the device competitive

Three weeks ago, I wrote about some leaks about the Galaxy S20 Fan Edition (FE) and even though the device’s hasn’t been officially released, it’s announcement was a great one. The device which as usual is meant to bridge the gaps between the uber-expensive Galaxy S20 and the Galaxy A series which are usually tipped at mid-range buyers. But if you’re wondering about the Galaxy S20 FE features and release date, then this might be the right info you’re looking for.

Much like the previously released Galaxy S10 Lite released later last year/earlier this year, the device is much like a trimmed down version of the much expensive Galaxy S20 series whose price tag starts at about US$799 and up to US$1,300 all depending on the configuration you want.

Interesting features of the device includes being powered by the Exynos 990 Octa-core chipset with a Mali-G77 MP11 GPU. With that, Samsung is trying to put it’s own Exynos chipset in play here. Even though this had featured in other devices as well just like the recently released Galaxy Note 20 Ultra which features two different variants of chispets depending on where you buy the device from.

But for an expensive smartphone as the Note 20 Ultra, most people were disappointed about the speed of the CPU in contrast to it’s North American variant which sports the Snapdragon 865+ chipset. Although their performances isn’t so far apart but it’s very noticeable especially for the smartphone enthusiasts but for an average user, you’ll barely understand what this really is.

Being featured in the mid-tier Galaxy S20 FE might be a good thing at least this is more like a “Lite” device rather than the high-priced ones.

Aside the chipset, other cool things to expect when the device finally gets released next month includes sporting a large 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display which you’ll expect from a Samsung’s smartphone because the company obviously do this all the time. there is barely any Samsung smartphone nowadays without an AMOLED display nd I give them big credit for this. The capacitive touchscreen of the Galaxy S20 FE will have 1080 x 2400 pixels.

And its also tipped to sport the Corning Gorilla Glass but we wouldn’t know what version probably Glass 6 which will offer better protection against scratches. There is also going to be HDR10+ support and always-on capacity with 120Hz@FHD/60Hz@QHD refresh rate.

This is where it sort of scare off OnePlus 8 Pro which has almost these same features but with a much higher price point but recent report has it that the price tag of the OnePlus 8 series will be slashed for the upcoming OnePlus 8T series which will be a better contender against the Galaxy S20 FE.

Elsewhere, the device is expected to sport a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 12MP primary sensor which will be a wide angle lens and then an 8MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom and then another 12MP ultrawide angle camera with a 32MP front facing selfie camera which will obviously be in a hole-punch.

Being an OLED display, it will have it’s fingerprint scanner right underneath the display using the company’s ultrasonic technology and other important specs tipped includes gyro, accelerometer, proximity and compass support as well as Bixby language support. Battery will be 4500mAh Li-Po cell.

You might wonder where this device will fit in with the endless arrays of devices Samsung has released this year including the Galaxy A-series and now another “Fan Edition” but it is what it is since smartphone companies have decided to flood the market with devices nowadays something which I’d say companies like Huawei and Xiaomi are really good at.

Even the latest is that Apple will release four smartphones this year despite releasing one earlier on this year but which lacks 5G network support. It’s in fact said that the iPhone 12 series will be the first Apple smartphones with 5G network support but we wait to see how true that will be.

And did I mention that the Galaxy S20 FE will have a 5G model as well which is going to be another big plus for the device to probably position itself in the midst of competitors as a better alternative and I definitely feel that.

The weight of the device at just 190g might say a lot about the kind of materials it will be made with. Remember that the previous Galaxy S10 Lite was made with plastic all over, and in fact other mid-range Galaxy A series released earlier on this year all featured plastic build rather than glass back or glass frame. But if there will be support for wireless charging, then there is high probability of the device sporting a glass and aluminum build which will further add up to it’s beauty somewhere which the OnePlus 8 series excels.

In terms of the price tag, report says it will be priced between US$599 4G version and US$699 for the 5G model which make sense considering the fact that many 5G smartphones nowadays are very much expensive and the fact that you can get it for less might be a good buy.
