Each time Gabe sinks in his office chair and starring at his 21 inch mac computer with lots of tasks right in for him to complete, he’s always having a serious mind boggling issues with getting back home.
Did I tell you that Gabe lives in a city that takes a 45 minutes drive to the train station before getting to where He eventually catches his company’s bus for work.
Well you might think this is civilization and transportation but where is the word “Convenience” here?Your job is supposed to create some kinds of security and freedom not always having your entire energy focused on something that will eventually break you down on the way long
.Good job is what doesn’t only bring a good food to the table, it’s also something that should leave some bucks right in your account.
While working might not be a bad idea especially for those that wants to learn and understand how the system of administration in enterprises works, it’s always a good idea to understand the fundamentals of every businesses and then go after what you want.
Sincerely, if you’re doing a job that doesn’t make you, then there isn’t any reason you should keep doing it. And that’s the fact.
Like Robert Kiyosaki said “When you work, you’re being paid to learn unlike school where you pay to learn” but the fact is that majority of people don’t work to learn but they just work. Therefore, you should understand if what you’re doing is really what you want to do.
When Jamie got a job as a marketer in a multinational company, he wasn’t pleased because he wanted something bigger than that from his own perspective.
Jamie wanted to be a programmer and have trained himself. While he wasn’t easily getting a good offer as a software programmer, he had to take what he could get at least which brought in some piles of check to his table.
While that might be a good idea, I mean why would anyone want to work if not to get paid for their jobs, he began lagging behind and that affected his productive just because he couldn’t keep doing what he doesn’t entirely enjoy.
The same happens to a huge lot of people especially the young people who probably don’t have a good guidance while seeking a job at first.
It’s always a good idea to understand what you want and then going after what you really want.Everything isn’t about getting a job, sometimes, it takes some gut to start up on your own and create some intangible wealth for yourself especially something you know you can do by yourself.
But still, here are my reasons you should quit your 9 to 5 job.
1. Your Social life :
One main problem of 9 to 5 is that you barely have time for your own self not to talk of socialising. While the weekend might be a great time to mix up with old buddies at the bar down the crossroad, it might be a good idea to consider how demanding your job is on your social life.
According to a research by an institute on human socialisation, its confirmed that lack of good social interaction will definitely lead to depression or suicidal thoughts apart from other psychological health risks at hand. Many of those 9 to 5 workers barely have good family and friends because they barely have time for anyone.
Although doing a 9 to 5 job can be good for you especially if you’re in your early 20s and you’re just starting out on a career. But at some certain stage of your life, you might need to move on.
Take for example Mr Ibraheem who suddenly fall to cardiac arrest and died in the process while he was at work. This happened while he was 56 years old.So committed to his job that he barely knew something was wrong with his health or he just choose to ignore it because he was more into his job than his life.
Even the popular Steve Jobs never mind dying for his cause because he never stopped working even when he fell really ill.
While the fact that your social life will affect your health eventually, you should at least choose a career that will enable you to do what you want in life and meet people you’d learn or gain from which is the essence of working which is to learn.
2. Your innovation is killed:
Do I have to tell you that some companies are like dictatorship.Well that might not be a good way to present it. You have to follow orders wand whether those orders you follow eventually fall back at you and backfires, you’ll be held responsible.
For example, innovation might be a heavy crime in a bank. All the processes are straightforward. You collect cash, you deposit them.
The moment you deviate from that, it might affect the whole system and then your innovation might be questioned.
In not saying there’s no room for growth and personal development in financial industries, my point is that you get to some levels before you can join the decision making process and that might not be your good choice at this time. So think it out twice before you jump to conclusions.
4. Affects your health
Remember what I said about my Ibraheem, the same happens to nearly majority of people that works a sedentary lifestyle job. While majority of white collar jobs require you sit in a place for hours while focusing on a single task, your heart and mental health might be put to risk.
A little bit of Mr Ibraheem is that he’s so used to automated things that he had stroke some years earlier in his mid 40s but scaled through and was normal again somehow. He wakes up, get his chauffeur drive him to work.
He enters the elevator to his office, he sits there till late night and do the same and sleep at night. He do this nearly every day and on Saturdays, he visit the bar of he’s not too tired to sleep, drink and have fun with friends.Well, he died and it was very sudden.
So whatever job you do, there should be room for personal and self examination which will help you become better both physically and mentally.
While this might not be a good reason enough to quit your job, you should at least exercise, work instead of driving.
Take the stairways instead of the elevator. All these keep your heart working well so it doesn’t just stop in the middle of a task because it got too tired of not working.
5. Abusive boss:
Some bosses usually lord over their subordinates. They assume you’re not as intelligent so you barely make a good point to them.
This won’t only kill your self esteem on the long run it will also affect your productivity and while you will appear like a clone of your boss in the dumb sense, you will be dump-fired eventually because you’re no longer valuable.
It’s always a great idea to confront or simply reject any office intimidation either from a boss or from a colleague. Report any of this to the bureau that monitors such acts and sue if possible.
6. Poor employee treatment:
Some companies are like parasites because they take and take it all from you without giving you anything back in return. When this happens, you should know that you should quit.
Apart from getting underpaid, you get overworked spending extended hours over tasks that are not even yours.
Apart from that, you’re not receiving entitlements on time and you don’t get good compensation for every work done.
This means that you’re getting poor treatments.Such company won’t only throw you right under the boss when things gets really intense, they will also keep treating that way unless you stand for what you want.
Abe was a lead programmer in a mid size company but despite his work experience and expertise, he barely get paid what he deserves because the boss assumes he’s committed and won’t leave at any instance.
Sometimes, when you give too much security to your boss, they missus that opportunity and think of you as a cheap pushover. That’s why you should quit or at least threaten to quit.
7. Dying brand and industry :
I wouldn’t say you should be jumping ship anytime this happens because sometimes when you’re looking job in other places, the fact that you’re jumping ships might hinder your success in landing another good opportunity.
But if you’re working in a dying company or a company that operates in a dying industry, you should know that you’re also going to likely die with them if you don’t move on time.
Apart from the fact that they won’t be able to pay you well enough again, the sales will nosedive and then the company will start having to layoff staffs and if you escape that, your monthly allowances and benefits will be irregular and even your basic salary will become a problem because the company will start paying from what it got.
It will most definitely have a negative impact on your metal states and you won’t like being there. While that will affect your productivity, you might consider moving because that’s the way it should be.
Even entering another industry and then overcoming the existing companies in those thriving industry might be a serious problem for your dying company and that will affect you a lot. So move or quit completely.
8. Distance :
Don’t forget they said time is money. When you live in another city apart from your company, then you should know you’re in a hot soup. You’re in a hot soup because most of the times you’re supposed to spend developing your own business or yourself will be spent in the bus or traffic.
That alone might be a reason for you to quit and or move to another company closer to you.Remember that when you work close-by your home, you spend less on transportation and you focus more on your job and yourself.
While some very big companies will get an apartment for their employee and pay for their transportation, small companies don’t do that.
So you should really consider many of these factors before joining any company or if you’re already in one, you should consider leaving because its definitely not for you. So. Quit!!!
As you can see, it’s not enough to just be working and the fact is many people just work and they don’t realise what they’re missing.
After wasting lots of years just for some monthly token, they realise that they’ve not achieved anything in their whole life.
And that will affect them psychologically. My advise is start off something today and be glued to it. Invest in yourself because you’re the best person to pitch to yourself. You only know what you want so go after what will get you what you want.
Try to be good and if things doesn’t work well where you are, then leave and move to another place or just quit definitely if you can certainly stand on your own.
